Mckenna, and everything within
    #458888 - 11/15/01 12:54 AM (22 years, 5 months ago)

I just thought I would ask everyone else out there what they are doing/reading/acknowleging about T. Mekenna. I've read some of his work and for me, he is a starter into the entheogenic/psychedelic experience (excuse the spelling, I'm drunk). Since he has died, I've felt hopeless. Now, Ken Kesely has died, and since I am an Oregonian, I am just lost. I look for people to find compassion in these situations, yet I turn up lost, once again.
If any of you have any regards towards my loss, and that of T. Mckenna and K. Kensey, please respond. Even if it is with readings that may fog my mind, from these stupendous poets, please advise.
I know this is not the post I had once wanted for T. Mckenna. Please forgive me, becase I am very, very drunk at the moment. I encourage all fanes of Mckenna to come and gather, share their experiences and trial with "all that is Mckenna!"

Grimace

I'm just paying back what Mckenna has given me. RIP you brilliant man!

I'm sorry about your negative state, and I'm shocked about the passing of Ken Kesey. I am days behind on current events, would you have any details on this? Tom Wolff's portrayal of Kesey in 'The Electric Acid Kool Aid Test' was important to my own development at about age 20.
As to your feelings: perhaps reframing them in terms of 'loss,' rather than "lost" would help you to put them in perspective. You are not lost - you find yourself very much alive, depite the passing of these celebrated personalities. We all 'die,' to the world of form and appearances, and these men have simply preceded your own passing. Sadness is the tearing of our attachments; it is some of, 'the cause of suffering is desire,' that the Buddha taught. Try not to feed your normal situational depression with depressants, and your spirit should elevate. Peace.

well, humans grow older and all eventually pass on....

I believe it is right to honor great leaders, and I feel Ken Kesey and Terrence McKenna were such leaders.

McKenna has contributed so much I don't know where to start. He was the original ethnobotanist/anthropologist. His studies and travels throughout tribes (esp South America) have contributed vast amounts of knowledge to our area of interest, that might otherwise still be hidden.

Just be thankful that he was able to share so much through his writings and lectures and bring this spiritual knowledge to the so-called 'civilized world'.

Remember them in your heart, but be happy for they are surely now in a better place.

I just read through the post I made last night while feeling quite sloppy. I think most of what I wanted to say came out wrong, but it seems most of you know what I was trying to say. Thanks for your thoughtful replys.

Go to my site and watch "Omega Vision"... it's a little McKenna inspired creation that might put a smile on your face... that is, assuming you like dancing monkeys... :)

I love reading Terence McKenna, but find it revealing that for all his inner explorations, he admitted that none of his psychedelic insights helped him in normal, daily life.

"One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" & "Sometimes a Great Notion" are Kesey's best novels IMO, "the Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test" is another great book about Kesey written by Tom Wolfe.

Hey, dude who started this post, there's still Hunter S. Thompson as far as psychedelic leadership go. And as far as losing the only people you can relate to with these things and feeling lost....I'm sure you've got friends who have been a much bigger influence on your personal/psychedelic/mental/spiritual development.
I do feel your pain though, I was deeply saddened when McKenna died, and I had no idea Kesey had died untill I read this post. Just from reading The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test and watching One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest, Kesey was a HUGE influence on the way I think. I'll miss him dearly.

hmmm.... borrowed _sailor song_ from local public library a few years ago... (don't know where i got my copy of_ kesey's garage sale_ , or where my copy is currently located...)
ummmm, it is just possible that the ace bookstore may have some of kesey's stuff available for sale... if you want to own a copy and don't want to patronize one of the national bookseller chains... visit those nice folks at the "association for consciousness exploration" & their co-conspirators, the chameleon club, at www.rosencomet.com for plenty good schtuff...
mmmm, maybe wavy gravy can visit us in n.e. ohio come this february...

eight days before his death, the Food and Drug Administration approved a pilot study of the club drug Ecstasy, also known as MDMA (3-4 methylenedioxymethamphetamine), for patients with post-traumatic stress disorder. And F.D.A.-approved trials of another psychedelic drug, psilocybin, as a treatment for obsessive-compulsive disorder, are scheduled to begin at the University of Arizona in January.

Everything is better than it was the last time.  I'm good.

If we could look into each others hearts, and understand the unique challenges each of us faces, I think we would treat each other much more gently, with more love, patience, tolerance, and care.

It takes a lot of courage to go out there and radiate your essence.

I know you scared, you should ask us if we scared too.  If you was there, and we just knew you cared too.
