Gee Whiz - Halliburton Hired To Do Storm Cleanup
Houston Chronicle | September 3 2005
The Navy has hired Houston-based Halliburton Co. to restore electric power, repair roofs and remove debris at three naval facilities in Mississippi damaged by Hurricane Katrina.
Halliburton subsidiary KBR will also perform damage assessments at other naval installations in New Orleans as soon as it is safe to do so.
KBR was assigned the work under a "construction capabilities" contract awarded in 2004 after a competitive bidding process. The company is not involved in the Army Corps of Engineers' effort to repair New Orleans' levees.
listening to Coast to Coast last night it was mentioned that Halliburton actually had the contract 4 months prior to the hurricane.

Well guys, that is kind of their job. That is what they get hired for. Are they not supposed to make any money because they have ties with Cheney?

What don't you understand about bidding for contracts? They bidded the lowest, so they got the job. That's how construction works.

Yeah but i guarantee its a cost+ contract See that way you get the bid because you underbid everybody but you wont lose money bidding low because its a cost plus job that ensures a staggering profit for everybody involved Thats not a bad deal for the normal hired hand because it guarantees you a nice paycheck for a long time, Why get in a hurry if its cost plus unless the higher ups start getting heat for dragging their feet

So how many of Dick's companies get all the contracts before it becomes too many? I assure you it had nothing to do with bidding, it is all about the president and his buddies making a dime and raising sinking approval ratings at the same time. Not that it matters at this point as all money is ultimately controlled by the same groups of people anyhow. It's just more a shame that they are worried more about making a bit of money for their company then actually providing relief.. as of yet.

How can you assure us that bidding has nothing to do with it? Do you have some information we don't?

Like bidding makes a damn bit of difference. You get contracts by more things than just the bid. The decide who they want to give money too. And when our elected officals are clearing making money in their own pockets by awarding govt contracts and the people don't give a damn just gives anyone who cares to look some insight into the complacency that is so predominant in our society.
We will let our leaders do what ever they please, we are more conserned with nascar and NFL.

Does anyone else have a company that they wanted to win the contract? Wouldn't any company given a contract under the Bush administration be looked at with a jaundiced eye? Seriously.
If Haliburton would have won a contract three years ago to make those levees withhold a Cat 4 hurricane I bet you guys would be bitching.

OK, a lot of wheeling and dealing does go on with these things, but come on, Haliburton Group is one of the largest construction and logicistical contracters in America, it would be inconceivable for them not to be involved.

yes and thats how we know Halliburton keeps getting contracts you just know they don't deserve. maybe i would look less harshly on a company that wasn't constantly profiting from misery of others.

Oh by all means let's not have any companies that fix stuff destroyed by fire or flood or wind -- i.e. profiting from the misery of others. Let's not have any pharmaceutical companies either. Or hospitals or nursing homes. Much better for the miserable people to do all that for themselves, you know. Gives them such a feeling of empowerment.

My company was assigned clean up work, no bid. I think in emergency situation, its really who can get the job done, and in a timely manner. We are going to walk away with an assload of money too.

yeah cause they really care.. thats why pharmaceutical companies are overdosing the nation. thats why all kids have "add" or need paxil or some other anti depressant.
of course you don't expect a company to work for free, but that is the mentality that has those people stuck in the worsening situation they are currently stuck in. EVERYONE FOR THEMSELVES. fuck helping others, look out for #1. of course thats just the way it is.
the problem is that while our country gets closer and closer to economic collapse people like George bush and his buddies are raking in billions.
"A June 16 article by Pratep Chatterjee in CorpWatch pointed out that a Halliburton subsidiary, Kellogg, Brown and Root (KBR), is the recipient of contracts that may eventually total $18 billion. There has been testimony before Congress detailing how taxpayers were billed for empty trucks driven up and down Iraq and how $85,000 vehicles were abandoned for lack of spare tires. Auditors have revealed that the company was spending $100 for a single bag of laundry on average and $10,000 per month for company employees to stay in five-star hotels. " web page
