i don't care for her digital work so much, but her paintings are definitely epic

she has a clear understanding of color, composition with different canvas shapes and, especially, her faces and hands ... hands are one of the hardest things to capture in a flowing way, and she's got it

she also seems to take some influence from Roger Dean in many respects ... (Roger Dean did the covers for Yes albums, but beyond that his personal work is even more amazing ...)

The two I like the best = the ones with the gold fish in them, next to the one with the falling leaves (one of the girls that only has one nipple). The one's done in 2003.

I love how she leaves body parts out artistically. And all the faces have this feral quality to them. But mainly these are the type of female figures only a woman that likes women sexually would come up with really. That's what fascinates me so much by them.

I mean that and that each piece just fucking oooozes style. I HAVE to eventually have one of her paintings around....

yea id love to get one of her pieces. too ... she and eyvind earle are the two 'most wanted' painters right now for my next apartment ... but eyvind earle will cost me dearly ... oh boy ... :frown:

and don't worry about LA .. you aren't missing much, unless you enjoy a daily hectic, anxious and traffic-ridden lifestyle ...

and yet ... i guess i enjoy it a little

Yea, Eo.S got sent down to LA for Sigraph for like a week... I think I might get stuck having to spend time there if I become a film composer.

I guess I'll have to work on getting some anti-smog gear first...

wow! That is really cool! But I think there is such a thing as too much style, or over-stylization.

But I do the same thing and am nowhere near as talented, so I have no room to criticize!

I don't think there is such a thing as too much style.

There might be such a thing as too much style for you to handle....

=)

Or of course style that you just don't like.

style detracts from the artfulness in art, IMO. Style should be percieved, not forced into an artwork. Character > style

i personally feel that style GUIDES the art ... without style, all art would just look the same ...

Yea, what ^^ he said.

Show me an artist has no style, and I'll show you an artist that will go no where.

can't say i agree with you there.. to me, highly stylized things look all the same. like, hollywood movies. They all have their own image / theme, but they're all so damn redundant taken as a whole.

What I was saying about character kind of defuses the looking-the-same argument, as it is an ultimate specificity. Sort of like, the piece develops its own momentary style in relation to what you are taking information in from.

What I was referring to as style is how an artist will often decide that they're happy with the way they're doing things, and sort of stagnate there. They will start off with their style and end there, but isn't that just making yourself into a specific photoshop filter?

ehh, i kind of come from a different part of art than, well, everyone else who posts in here :p . I'm realizing more and more that the expressive qualities of artwork contrast with the opinions of the artist ( which show up as the aesthetics, or style i guess ). An artistic observer might really like the expressive parts of some artwork and strive to achieve that through all his personal means, or like the aesthetics and imitate them. I, personally, tend to ignore the aesthetics and view the artwork on expressive + perceptual terms.

So, to me, artfulness means achieving something beyond the artwork, stressing the quirks of seeing vs feeling in subtle ways, with as little fluff as possible.

ah nevermind, i probably sound like i'm ranting.. which i partly am, because it's the beginning of the new moon period...

style is something imposed onto the artwork. Character can be mistaken for style by someone who doesn't know what the artist is actually doing and just thinks it looks nice.

consider elmer bischoff or diebenkorn. I would not call that style, as it was not imposed onto the artwork, but built from it.

That's a little to art school for me.

I'm saying style, charisma, soul, that's what I see in this girl's paintings.

I see alot of art with no style, no personality, no jazz... All the time. It's very refreshing to see something like this, to remind me humans actually have individual souls again...

And that not everything is part of some stupid corporate machine.
