just hours left now. the store shelves are empty.

this is the strongest storm ever on record (wind gusts up to 200+ MPH) to hit the continental US.

Wish me luck, the power will most defantly go down later tonoght, hopefully my house will still be standing one Katrina has her way....

I'm about 20 miles north of that little lake thats north of New Orleans. About 5 miles north of the mandatory evacuation area.

I'm staying here like most of the other people in this town. Hopefully I wont regret it.

You can pretty much say good-bye to NOLA. The storm-surge + tidal waters + storm waves bring the water lever up to 50+ feet. The cities levies are only 15-20 feet at their highest locations.

This the THE storm the city has been fearing for years. With over 100,000 poor people in the city with no transprtation, expect a large loss of life.

Yeah this one is right up there with Camille. I think that one barely missed New Orleans.

This is really the ONE. The power of God will show its face in a matter of hours in a city that averages -5 ft. sea level, and one of the oldest and poorest cities in the USA.

Don't worry about me so much, worry about the 100's of thousands of people who are litterally stuck in the bowl of NO.
At the risk of sounding to mellow-dramatic, New Orleans is fucking doomed.

my place is in covington, about right there^

the eye-area has a good bit of land to cover before it gets here, so hopefullt by the time it get to my area it will be down to a cat3...

As if now, in terms of barometric pressure it is currently the strongest storm on record in the Atlantic basin (currently 912 mb), the sustained winds are 176 mph with wind gusts up to 207Mph. And if the the current barometric pressure sustains, the winds will inrease even more by the time it makes landfall.

the next strongest was Gilbert in 1936 - Gilbert had winds up to 184 mph and a barometric pressure of 888 mb
