Study more than one religion and you'll see lots of similarities/thread stitching it all together. There are many lessons in religion.


God - is whatever you choose to fulfil your life. It is your path.

God = car
God = money
God = power
God = whatever

just be comfortable with your god and don't hog the couch...

Got it, I was thinking the more broad, technical definition of a belief.

A person using drugs to escape his problems is not the same as one who's fiath in God helps them deal with life.

There are many people, religous or not, who sit around feeling sorry for themselves, wishing that things would change without the balls to do anything about it. Although religion certanly doesnt prevent this attitue, I do not agree that it enourages the attitude either. For many people, their faith in god is the very thing that allows them to get up every morning and stay on the grind.

I cant think of any relegion that says "Pray to god, and He is gonna solve all of your problems for you".

I personally am not relegious. However, I see relegion as a tool some people use to see the world. I, like I gather you do, belive that it is too limiting, and can prevent somone from seeing the entirety of a situation. But being religous and being in denail are not the same thing.

yea but I can look up and see the sun, i see all the light it brings, i feel the heat from it, i see the darkness that comes when it leaves and feel the weather get cooler when it is gone. From this i can conclude that the sun is real.

What religious people KNOW about God is only from what they read in books, which have absolutely zero way of being tested or examined or anything. To me it seems like saying there is an evil leprechaun next to me, but he cant be seen or heard or touched, but you have to believe in him or he will kill you. I mean i think that there is way more than what our little brains can see hear touch etc, but religion seems to be just complete blind following in a story that unlike the sun, cant be verified or even examined in any way.

So in other words, God is simply an empty term created by primates that holds no definition?

The reason the religions have similarities is because apes all have similar brains with similar areas. It's much simpler scientifically to realize the brain is the unifying factor in these bullshit religions, not God.

how insightful... Did you come up with this yourself? The governor of the great state of Minnesota said that same thing a couple years ago. I'm sure if you did a little reading, you could find plenty more references.

edit: ex-governor, ex-professional wrestler, ex-XFL commentator... take a look at his recent pictures and think if you want to agree with him

What's your point? I don't know who you're talking about either since I couldn't name one Minnesota governor, but it doesn't matter who espouses a logical idea; the ideas stand alone to be criticized, unless they are inseparable from the people, such as Christianity with the Galilean peasant.

People still believe that myth?

I thought it arose because it was observed that glia outnumber neurons by so much, and since people at first just thought the neurons were significant developed that 10% number (though glia actually outnumber neurons by 50 to 1 we've now discovered, so if it was true it'd be more near 2%).

Though it isn't; glia are essential to brain functions, and that "10%" number is bullshit. Natural selection wouldn't develop us to put so much energy into maintaining the brain and then only using 10% of it; if people understood Darwinism better they would question their myths more.

none of the examples in that article are thorough or conclusive, it is basing its debunking on a few instances where someone with no actual evidence claimed we use 10% and everyone believed it.

both arguments that we use all of our brain and 10% of our brain are not convincing in the slightest

the full potential of the brain cannot be determined simply by a PE scan or a fMRI scan to measure which parts of the brain are stimulated. No way can that evidence be used to conclude that

"Over the course of a whole day, however, just about all of the brain is used at one time or another."

I'm sure Benjamin Radford feels high and mighty for debunking that one...
