Is this an invasion of privacy? What can I do?
    #4575436 -

Okay so I was working at this one place, but got fired after 3 weeks for a few reasons. They drug tested me, but I passed it cause I detoxed, I even say documented proof.
My dad has been friends with this guy that is associated with the company (we'll call him S). Well my dad asks S to go and ask around the reason I got fired. My dad didn't ask me for my permission.

S finds out that they suspected drug use because they overheard me mention Ambien to my friend on my cell phone while I was on break. So numerous people that work there tell S that they suspected drug usage, and that they had some complaints from customers, so they simply just fired me.

Isn't this a violation of my privacy? A man that has nothing to do with me, and has nothing to do with hiring or giring anyone, (he works for them too), can got the inside scoop all about me, even my drug test results. Then he tells my dad and now my dad wants to kick me out of the house.

Is there a hotline I can call or something? What should I do?!?!

File for wrongful dismissal?

After that, you don't have much, as far as I know.

But some guy that I barely know knows all about me now. That's just 100% fucked up imo. That can't be legal!

If that is not the documented reason for dismisal then I see it as as liable or slander. But to my understanding employers ex or otherwise are not alowed to tell anyone much of anything let alone rumors around the office. But since this sounds like it was not an official inquirely it may not have bearing. If your state is an employ at will state like colorado you can't file wrongful termination unless you had a contract of some sort. But you can file for unemplyment as far as I know if they never gave you a fair chance to rectify any deficiencies in your performance or never wrote you up. Here they would normaly have to document poor performance if they had any chance at fighting an unemployment claim.

If nothing else call a lawyer for free consult and tell the your tale of woe.

"Suspected Drug Use" and you mentioning Ambien on the phone does not really seem like they know that much about you at all.

It is wrong that they fired you for you mentioning Ambien on the phone. You could have been talking to a girlfriend or somthing telling her to get your pills ready so you can take them and crash. About your dads friend, he could have just asked around and talked to the person who heard you speaking of Ambien. There's nothing wrong with that

You're making it seem like some random stalker knows your whole life story from some leaked information at your workplace. It's your fathers friend and he doesnt know anything important anyway.

I'm pretty sure a company can fire you for any or no reason at all (unless it's for obvious racial, gender discrimination, etc).

They can do pretty much anything they want unless you have a good contract or are unionized.

UncleLuke said:

any wrongful dismissal is dead in the water if they have any records of this. All it took was one documented complaint to end a legal battle in my office.
