Randy Alvey And The Green Fuz - "Green Fuz" (mp3)
    #4543970 - 08/16/05 08:52 PM (18 years, 7 months ago)

Ladies and gentlemen, this is probably my favorite garage song ever. If you don't like this song, then you just don't like garage. This song isn't nearly as psych as most of the stuff I post here, but the feel of the song is still very chill. At the same time though, this song is as raw as anything The Stooges or The Sonics ever did. There's a very early punk feel to the song. I've heard rumors though, that Randy Alvey now works as a prison guard and hates this song. I also heard that he thought The Cramps cover of this tune was meant as an insult(?). Anyway, first I'll paste Borderline Books blurb on Randy Alvey And The Green Fuz and then link the file..............

This punk band hailed from Bridgeport in North Texas, just Northwest of Fort Worth and were for a while a popular local attraction in the area. Randy was just 15 when this single was made. Mastered on a portable reel to reel cassette and recorded in a rock constructed cafe after hours, which probably explains the echoey sound, it's hardly surprising the production sounds so crude. Only 500 copies were pressed at the time, but today, Green Fuz has become something of a cult classic. The flip was a ballad credited to R.E. Houchens. Minus Les Dale the band recorded again as Natchez.

More recently, Green Fuzz has been covered by The Cramps, the Miracle Workers, Germany's Beatitudes, the Seclusions and by Dino Sorbello's Laughing Sky on their Free Inside CD retitled as Here We Come.

Compilation appearances have so far included: Green Fuz on Pebbles, Vol. 2 (LP), Pebbles Vol. 2 (CD), The Essential Pebbles Collection, Vol. 1 (Dble CD), Pebbles Box (5-LP), Best of Pebbles, Vol. 1 (LP & CD), Pebbles, Vol. 3 (ESD) (CD); Great Pebbles (CD), Trash Box (5-CD), Acid Dreams Epitaph (CD) and Acid Dreams - The Complete 3 LP Set (3-LP).

(Vernon Joynson/Max Waller/Greetings Reinald)

I give this song the illusive 5 out of 5 electric sugar cubes.

Can't download it. That seems to be a trend with the links you post lately...Which is really a bummer because I enjoy some of the same music you do and I'm really looking forward to hearing this song.

On another note, do you know of a band called The Litter? I'm sure you'd enjoy their music.

What the hell. It's uploaded to The Shroomery server. The link works fine for me. What happens when you try to download it? Does it take you back to the Main Index? Was anyone able to download it? Here's a different link.........

What happened when you clicked on the Shroomery link (the first one)? Did it send you back to the Main Index?

Were you able to get the second one?
