Voacanga africana report

Seed taste : Woody, or like burned sunflower seeds, and in the end very bitter. They are crispy and hollow. The seeds are easy to chew but they stick in your teeth.

Experience :
Chewed 100 seeds within 20 minute. Drunk enough water and ate a bit of honey. My stomach was empty and It was 2:30 in the night. I ingested 2400 mg of nootrop and 3 mg of hydergine. I went to bed. Closed all the lights so that everything was black. I slept withing a minute and I woke 11:30 in the morning. My sleep was good but I feel a bit heavy. Didn't noticed anything and understand now that the experiences with 20-50 seeds are always a placebo. Just like when I wanted to have vivid dreams and I did it when I watched the movie " Waking life".
The concentration of alkaloids in the seeds of V. africana is the second lowest in alkaloids after the leaves.

Seeds contain other alkaloids than the root bark, and from what it seems they are not active a all.

Conclusion: Seeds only do good for planting them. I already planted 10 seeds. Next time I will use the root bark witch is active.

I need a detailed report about these (found in leaves and seeds):

Vobtusine
2-deoxyvobtusine
18-oxovobtusine
amataine
Akuammidine
Tabersonine
Vobtusine

If some of them are active them a mixture of root and leaves or seeds can be used.
Although I discovered that Tabersonine is not active at all (found in seeds as the bigest consentration of alkaloid). Maybe I'll run a search and post the resaults.

Yup, i would like to see some references on Taberosine's inactiveness

All in all a very interesting experiment although could have been quite dangerous.... Certainly not "a spur of the moment" thing.

An interesting experiment would be to see what happens if one stays awake.Thats not an "invitation" to re-experiment so soon ,but something to keep in mind.

As a side note : I got quite impressed with the lack of interest on this thread on other people's behalf.Is it that noone is interested in voacanga,new plants or new techniques in general and they preffer to stick to the "tried and true"? Is it because many have tried it and found it inactive?

I wonder why there arent many reports on obscure plants that many vendors carry because they were mentioned in the "classic books" about entheogens (Encyclopedia of Psychoactive plants etc). I believe than ethnobotanical vendors have a love for the experience entheogens can provide and if you compine that with them having a shop and quite literally bags full even with the most obscure, unexplored plants although some of them quite legendary (look at iboga alkaloids) one would expect that vendors would be at the front line of experimenting given the access they have on those plants.

Some thoughts flow: Is pricing indicative of activity? For example ,Argyreia Nervosa (HBWR) is UNDOUBTEDLY active sometimes effects seen from 2-3 seeds usually around 5.If you notice they are sold in "dosagewise" increments ,10 seeds for X dollars,25 for 2X dollars ,50 for... etc etc.Some plant seeds are sold in huge quantities at low prices,could it be that vendors know they are nothing special? Apparently the active species,the readily ,easily active ones get big prices in the market.

Lately i have been also researching seeds of plants such as HBWR and others in NON-ethnobotanical ,NON-entheogen shops.The price difference is HUGE for exactly the same thing you could buy from ethnobotanical vendors.Sometimes i think that buying from an all out entheogen vendor you are also paying some money for the "legend" and the "wink wink" behind the material...Oh well..

Hey psiloman,  I know what you mean about lack of interest in some of the more obscure plants.  I have more so i wll attempt again. Any special prep to germ these?  As far as obscure, I have a Sun-opener plant which many probably view as obscure and exotic, its still to small to harvest from but its growing well so far.

Tinkal, I have voacanga seeds, i planted a few and none germinated.  Anywho,  thanks for posting your experience with voacanga.

Mycomancer, make sure your heimia has plenty of root space. I was growing some a while ago, and when it was time to thin out the seedlings, I was surprised by how big the roots are even on very small plants. Also, once they get five or six inches tall they start growing really quite fast.

That's all I wanted to say, I don't know anything about voacanga :tongue:.

It seems "Plants of the Gods" and writings by a few other prominent authors is what has shaped much of the contemporary scene as manifested by online forums and the information archived in Erowid. Personally, I think people are wasting effort in the more famous of the obscure plants (such as Heimia scalifolia) when there is a wealth of very interesting leads with better chances of success. Plants used for visionary and narcotic purposes are abundant (interestingly, it seems stimulants are less widespread, possibly due to cultural rather than biological reasons, but who knows?)
Of course, I'm carping that the response I received to my opioids from non-traditional sources thread was underwhelming.

You mentioned some new leads on "new" promising visionary plants.Care to mention any? Or mention where i can find those leads,i would like to have a look...

Indeed what is marketed around is mostly "Plants of the Gods" stuff. I also had a flick through Encyclopedia of Psychoactive plants (English Version) and saw some potential in some plants...

I was refering mostly to analgesics, narcoritcs and/or nootropics. But you can find several in Christian Ratsch's "Psychoactive Plants" (is that the book to which you refered?), and probably more in the "Simple Plant Isoquinolines" by Shulgin; possibly a QiHKAL will be written by him as well (rumors abound). Cacti alone offer an easy dozen leads, some species with probably novel types of visionary agents (even the famous Lophophora diffusa is barely studied; according to reports it is very potent, yet there are no alkaloids to afford an explanation). I have encountered several others, but for various reasons I'm less interested in these, so I haven't followed them up, nor archived references to them. Quaerendo invenientis.

By the way, I think it's a rather interesting phenomenon that many species revered by various NA seem to be inactive. You'd think that the people who had access to and regularly used the best of the best - Peyote, Ololiuhqui, S. divinorum and Psilocybe mushrooms, wouldn't be so impressed with Ariocarpus sp. or Heimia salcifolia. I have my own conjectures about this.
