We should not be concerned at all, period. Shrooms are one of the upmost safest drugs you can pry your little hands on, so enjoy them and ignore the rumors that some may spread.

I wouldn't dismiss this so quickly. There could be some truth to what he is saying. Plants can, and do, absorb toxins from the environment around them. YouInfoIt: do you have any links to studies/research that has been done on this topic? I'd be interested in seeing something.

Has anyone ever heard of "Death Caps?" Their shrooms that give you a not to intense trip and make you sick for a week. I took some before it totally sucked. And the thing was it was just a few random shrooms out of a quarter pound I picked. So I guess every so often you can get a bad shroom. Though its extremely rare. The only thing you really have to worry about is getting the wrong kind of mushroom.

Um, hang on a second: 1. In bioremediation trials by Paul Stamets, he was able to get a select strain from his library to colonize and subsequently fruit from a pile of contaminated (chemically) media. He "competed" against others who used other bio cleanup methods and won. In the end, the mycelia flourished and fruited, attracting bugs and other organisms to the site to eat them, which in turn attracted birds and other higher level predators, which in turn dragged other natural life forms (i.e. plant seeds) into the picture. I wouldn't worry so much about residual toxins in mushrooms. 2. Death Caps don't make you trip. The Death Cap, or Amanita Phalloides, is one of the most deadly mushrooms on earth. In the end, your liver and posibly other organs will have dissolved. NEVER eat death caps. You must be referring to Amanita Muscaria, the Fly Agaric mushroom. It's not worth the time or effort.
