I thought only "criminals" had Fingerprints!

What do you guys think about using a fingerprint scanner as the sole method to clock in and out for work? It's simple, all you have to do is place your fingertip on a clear piece of plastic, and it is scanned and converted to binary code. The new "time clock" is hooked up to the master scheduling system, so this prevents any employees from clocking in/out early, thus eliminating any overtime not approved by management. The neat thing is that the binary code translates every ridge, groove, arc, and whorl in your fingertip; it's a 100% accurate representation of the chained-up animal you have now become.
I AM SO FUCKING INFURIATED!! When I found out this news last night of the new system being implemented throughout the #1 corporate grocery chain in America, I went on a 25-minute stoned tirade! (I've never been so easily provoked while high, if that gives you any clue how utterly angry I am/was.)
Naive me. I was sitting in our computer room at work putting an order on, and sitting right in front of me were these two blue machines with a number pad and a clear plastic oval and an elongated groove underneath it.
My store manager had just come back from vacation, and apparently still unaware of the situation, asked me, "What the hell are those things?"
I said, "It looks like a fingerprint scanner...see?" I rested my finger in the groove and put my fingertip on the plastic. "I don't know what they're for."
"Well I don't know why the heck we need something like that in this store."
I wonder if he knows yet...
My friend from another store has to go to a meeting Thursday where a representative will gladly show her how to use the new time clock and any fueled questions that will undoubtedly arrise from the employees.
For instance, she was already told to tell the uneducated union supporters, if they have concerns, that this has been completely accepted by the union; they OK'd it, which must make everything fine and dandy.
This abhorrent system of tracking employees has already been implemented in another zone. Many are as infuriated as myself. One lady walked out before she was trained to use it, saying, "This is the mark of the BEAST!" Now that's what I like to hear!
I know that after implentation in the other zone, all legal aspects will be covered by the time it reaches my zone. I'm thinking of consulting my stepfather, who is a lawyer, to find out any way whatsoever that I can abuse or refuse this FingerPrint scanning system.
Or maybe I just need to grow up, get with the times, deal with the technonology and surrender myself to the point I'm just a sedated animal, not even an employee who loves her job.
I'm not a fucking "criminal;" I have no record. I'm sure with the right amount of money, or some drugs, maybe even a spectacular blowjob, oh--can't forget the feds, my fingerprint could be had around the world, and one day...OH I don't even want to consider the possibilites. WHY do people put UP with this shit?!
I'm down for change almost anyday, but this is preposterous.

Just think how many things you touch during one day, I bet the FBI, CIA, already has all of our prints stored away. Maybe even DNA.

Yeah, everything I touch has fingerprints on it, but really... It's the idea behind it, man. I AM a convicted felon with no rights. It would be that much easier to obtain my personal binary code and have it translated 100% in milliseconds, rather than being dusted and lifted, then analyzed.

I know, it sucks. I was thinking about how I was hired before the pre-employment piss testing, but if I have to go to Urgent Care for a work-related accident, I will be tested, and obviously terminated
I'm still very angry. I want to spread the word at work. As far as I know, nobody is aware at my store.

It's prolly no big deal. They only scan one finger, correct?
and it's just for your timeclock, right?
They might have a problem with the mexicans clocking eachother in when one of them feels like taking a day off. That used to happen at my factory job (I don't know where you work). And you already pointed out the overtime issue.
A time clock like this might not be as spectacular as they claim, but it will end up saving the company money, so of course they want to use it.

You're right MeatSpace, it is only just one fingerprint, not the whole set. And of course it'll save the company money, otherwise they wouldn't do it . It seems like a huge disrespect to many of us who are faithful, but coming from the business side, I DO understand why they'd want to do this.
Still so creepy. I'm just not down for it.

Wait until they put the time card under your skin and monitor wherever you go and log your time in the bathroom or outside having a smoke. Just you wait. You won't even know it when the time comes.

I don't blame you. Fingerprints used to be personal.
It's not like just anyone can access things about you that they don't already have, like your police record or other such background records.
If you think they are doing something wrong, go with your instincts, make a change, either a crusade to stop the insanity or a different job.
If you have a bunch of years at the company, don't forget to consider your retirement and how long it takes to earn it.
