    #4479260 - 07/31/05 11:36 PM (18 years, 8 months ago)

its so fucking weird i always new there was something fishy about fractals because i had seen them in physics and whatnot, then out of the blue the second time i was tripping (my first eighth) i was listening to music and watching the visualizer and there were some fractals going nuts... then i stumble across this whole timewave zero stuff... shit is actually crazy and i don't know what to think HELP

Peter Meyer helped McKenna develop the Timewave and wrote the Timewave software.

--

Peter Meyer: I think that Terence's claims for the original (or any) timewave were based on a selection of evidence (historical + qualities of wave). That is, he chose historical events which fit the wave.

and

Peter Meyer: But I regard it has having no explanatory or predictive power, and so is useless as a cognitive aid. It can, however, be entertaining, as long as one doesn't believe it gives any knowledge. Unfortunately (as I suspect) a lot of people do believe that, so they're fooling themselves (as people tend to do).

and

Peter Meyer: The problem is that the construction of any of the sets of 384 numbers is arbitrary. That would not be a fatal objection if the theory could be used to explain or predict, but it can't (in a way which withstands criticism).

I bought Food of the Gods once and it got pretty boring. McKenna is better to listen to. A lot of what he says is plausible. What did he say about the apes?

Don't ask about the apes. Food of the Gods was a great read. Archaic Revival too. True Hallucinations was very innardaining, but the chapter headings gave me a chuckle. That and the wild roof-top sex. He's a pretty good speaker, I guess. Bit nasal, bit slow, but pretty good. I'd say, without being too conservative here, his speaking is not entirely against all taste and decency, and it has elements of theology and geometry, which can be appreciated, to an extent, but, and I say this in no uncertain terms, that, as it were, Mckenna was afflicted with having too much hair and a nack for butterfly nets??an abomination!

Ever read Food of the Gods? or True Hallucinations?

Mckenna has thousdands of great ideas; just because he went wrong on one theory doesn't make him a complete fool. that is why it was a theory, not a law.

I'm a big Mckenna fan, but his Timewave Zero shit, is well... shit. I've done ALOT of research on his TWZ theory, and it is bullshit because he arbitrarily chose the date 2012.

But besides the Mayan Calander and Terence Mckenna, I believe 2012 to be a time of spiritual awakening; an enlightenment age.

I'm a big Mckenna fan

As am I.

I think Peter Meyer said it best: I think Terence is best remembered for his contributions other than TWZ

The Mayan calendar end on 2012 because the Mayans thought that by 2012 someone would have updated the damn calendar.
