so when you can't intelligently support your statements
or make a valid point, you hurl insults?

the smiley doesn't do a good job of masking your lack
of substantive rebuttals.

Perception is not something you should be using to get you through the day. Your senses can be tricked easily, as I'm sure you know. There are tons of examples of the human's senses tricking their owner: optical illusions, phantom limb pain, hallucinations, etc.

I don't dismiss history, not at all. I was just pointing out that history isn't set-in-stone. I realize that most of the wonderful things we have in this world are due to the fact that in the past, someone did alot of hard work to make it possible. We are standing on the shoulders of dead people's achievements. But that doesn't mean we should constantly be fixed on what "happened" in the past. We weren't there. There are only accounts of what happened. Believing in a history book is not much different than believing in the Bible.

You are negative towards me. No matter what I have ever said to you it brings a negative reply.

That's why you can't understand that I wasn't even insulting you, but just making an observation..

I would dare to disagree with you there. For the most part, other than in ancient times, we have writing available by both sides of the story. The Bible is a horrible inaccurate text (even to the point of getting Christ's birth date wrong by 6 years) while during the past 2,500 or so years, most historical texts have been very accurate. It is foolish to dismiss the past because that is the only way we can learn what we came from and improve ourselves.

except that history, many times, has tangible artifacts and
varying, substantive claims.

where as the bible is a little less *provable* AND makes
fantastical claims.

did Brutus kill Ceasar? most likely.

did Jesus rise from the dead? hrmm....

Yet your usual "logical person" would argue that other than the existance of the 5 senses, nothing else has been "proven" anyway. So, you cannot have it both ways, I'm afraid.

You can live in the moment logically.

No You cannot, because you lose the moment the instant you start analyzing rather than percieving!

In technical terms, you'll be constantly lagging.

Um.. You aren't that bright are you?  Moments happen all the time.  Just because you start analyzing something, doesn't mean that you are no longer living in a moment.

Where in the bible does it give Christ's birthday again? I simply mustn't forget to send him a card this year!!

No sir!! Wrong!!

If you're constantly analyzing everything as it comes along, then you're in a state of constantly being forced to move on to the next set of sensory input, rather than living out each one.

You're fucking working all day whether you're at work or not.  What kind of a fucking life is that??!!!

You only think he's negative because his opinion is different. I think he's just trying to open your mind and get you thinking because you've lost your point various times in this thread. You act as though you have blinders on and refuse to see it any other way.

Read something by Descartes. He is aboout as rational and reasonable as one can get, and he did not trust the senses at all.

Wrong. His bad attitude goes way beyong this particular thread. In fact, I think he's actually following me around the boards. He amuses me, that anybody can be that consistantly negative. And yes, it's more than just a differing opinion. I've actually ignored numerous insults from him through the months just as a courtesy to him for being what I consider to be one of our "special members".

Well from what I've seen, you were the one trying to insult others who don't agree with what you say.  If he has such a 'bad attitude' towards you, maybe it's time to ask yourself the question "Why?"

I'm just perturbed that you are trying to lump a notoriously inaccurate book in with the rest of history. That would be like me trying to say that Gilgamesh or The Odyssey are good examples of history.
