Man, I haven't watched this show in awhile.  I forgot how good it is.  Just when I was thinking about taking my Picard signiture down, too.

Actually there is an episode where Picard gets a cold...he doesn't sneeze though.

i've never actually seen an episode of star trek. well i saw half of one, once, but came in in the middle of it, and was really baked, so was more confused than anything else. although my boss swears by the show...

Well, for me...the adventures of the Enterprise are a lot like the psychedelic experience. These guys go on a journey through all sorts of INSANE circumstances and try to keep human dignity intact all the while. In fact, the very first episode ever of TNG is when Q puts humanity on trial, and that theme is continued throughout the series. It's a test for Picard and his crew to maintain the best in humanity as they travel.

On their journey their experiences change them. If you watch the first season and then compare it to the last, the difference in the way the characters behave is enormous. In the beginning Picard is very stuffy and uptight, very withdrawn and we don't know much about him. He makes all these life and death decisions and we are expected to care because...he's the captain. But as the seasons progress, you see a real evolution take place with Picard and the crew. The very last episode of the series takes place with Picard breaching the last boundary between captain and crew when he joins them for a game of Poker. (a habitual practice in the upper staff that Picard has abstained from the entire show) Finally the entire show just comes together in that moment, in a very rewarding way. Crew and captain have exceeded who they began as, and they've done it as one unit.

Another thing I like about Picard is that he is sort of the renaissance man of the 24th century. He reads Shakespeare and loves archeology. Picard knows his shit. He can talk his way out of anything, and if he can't do that, he'd find a way to cripple the enemy without killing them, allowing him and his crew to beam up safely to the ship. It's great and very insprirational.

Star Trek gives a positive view of humankinds future. The people of the future in Star Trek TNG are socially advanced and have created a near-paradise on Earth. They have replicators so all hunger is eliminated. Currency does not exist. With these domestic concerns taken care of (and before the Dominion threat of Deep Space 9) the Federation focused their attention towards exploration, and the Last Frontier.

I could go on and on, but I'll stop here.

I LOVE Deep Space Nine!  Kevin and I are in season 6 of the series.  We're planning on watching more tonight, in fact.  :smile:

We're in season four of Voyager...eh...it's okay but not as good as the other Star Treks.

It's great, isn't it? Just be sure to watch them in sequence, in order to get a feel for the overall back-story. Especially the last 3 or so seasons.....

Ellemysh I've been hooked on this show for like the past 3 months. I love it! and I never even watched it before that. I like how the show examines weird far-out topics. It's definitely a thinker's show.

And Data is by far my favorite character. I almost feel like I can relate to him the easiest, plus he's hilariously funny. The actor that played him always did such an amazing job.

Brent Spiner is the shizzle. I went looking for pictures of him in Independance Day and guess what I found out? We have the same birthday. Ain't that some shit.



Also, RIP Scottie of the original Star Trek. God has beamed him up.
