Another beautiful day here in the North East.
These as always are my guesses

Amanita jacksonii or ceaser or whatever: Would you eat it? This is the largest one I have found this year.




the one with orange is Gomphus Floccosus: and the other one is Gomphus Kauffmanii



maybe Cantharellus Xanthopus?


Thought it was Russula Nigercans but maybe a lactarius??


Perhaps Lactarius Geardii??


Possible Boletus Bicolor (ooh -ahh) (pretty Blue bruising) and Tylopilus Felleus



and of course, about 3.5 pounds of chants. That makes six pounds so far this year.


oh yeah. that knife you see in alot of the picture is 4.5 inches long closed.

Hey man, the variety here has way wavy caps, with some crazy designs. It's pretty rare to find a semi round cap like in your picture. That is cool though, the chanterelles are literally flooding this land. The market is flooded too, prices have dropped to $6 a pound in most places. My circuit of restaurants told me to call them Monday and see again. Hopefully the ones I got will hold up in the fridge, if not I'm gonna dry, air pack, and freeze. I've eaten literally a pound already! A+ material, and healthy from what I hear... They contain beta carotene, protein, fat, and fiber.. straight from the experts! How about that apricot smell? Gotta love how far that scent travels.

hey norm... great finds

i think that Cantherellus is tubaeformis or the Trumpet Chanterelle..

found em by the bucketloads last year! they dry great, just in open air..

ps- the xanthopus or yellow foot chanterelles i found last year grew in exactly the same spots as the trumpets... the trumpets are the ones with the violet gills, the yellow foot's are all yellow

is that 6 per pound wholesale. I was thinking twelve for these. I think the round cap has alot to do with age too. once that cap margin unrolls they get wavy. Though I find more simmalarities between these and Bulgarian chants than I do ones from the PNW. Except for Queen Charlotte chants which in my opinion are the best in the world. The caps on those are always round and the gill surface has almost a salmon pink color to them.

norm- the wildcrafters i am apprenticing with right now, who make their living on it all, tell me never to sell any wild mushrooms up here for less then $15/lb... differnt markets sure but its a lot harder to get em back up if you start low... id say at least 13! not everyone can do this ya know! :smile:

....well maybe everyone can but it definetly takes some time and patience to find the spots, let alone to know how to take care of them so they keep producing... doing a great job man, gl :smile:

Nice specimens.

Your Amanita is clearly enough from the A. caesarea group of species to be safe to eat. If you decide to try it, be sure to cook it thoroughly and eat only a small amount at first (smaller than a fingernail).

Your possible Russula nigricans suggests a Paxillus to me. Try making a spore print. Russula and Lactarius have white to deep cream colored to almost orange colored spore prints and Paxillus have brown ones. Paxillus are dangerously poisonous and have caused fatalities, so they should not be eaten.

Other ways to see if it's a Paxillus. Break the stem - they have a fibrous stem, unlike Russulalaes. Paxillus often have anastomosing gills near the stem, although not always.

The possible Lactarius geardii(?) (did you mean L. gerardii?) suggest Hygrophorus to me. Do the stems break in the usual Russula/Lactarius way, or are they fibrous? There is a resemblance between these and L. gerardii.

For the bolete, does the reticulation (net-like pattern on the stem) extend more or less than halfway down the stem? If you scratch the tube surface, how long does it take to change color? What kind of trees were they found under?
