Weening off of klonopin

Hey all that kno me and those that don't.

I started taking 1mg of klonopin/day for anxiety about 2 years ago. Eventually I was up to 6mg of klonopin a day.

Due to changes in the direction of my life, all the things I've learned since then, very insightful trips, and an overall better look on life, I'm deciding to cut down on the benzos.

Going from 6mg to 4mg was tough, I did that in one jump. Involved a lot of teeth grinding and a little lack of sleep. Restlessness, agitation. But it faded after not too long. The other side effects were more intense than any anxiety experienced.

Going from 4mg to 3mg was not as hard as the initial jump. I can tell the difference distinctly (equivalency of ~10mg of valium). No change in anxiety experienced.

Now I'm at the 3mg a day and have been for two weeks now. Soon, I'm going down to 2mg/day. This will be perfect because it will be after finals and I'll be stress free.

I have to wait a month between dropping mg's due to risk of seizure and other side-effects since I've been on it so long.

I've already noticed improvements. Increase in overall energy. Ambition. Confidence. Power. I mean, these drugs are supposed to help with anxiety, but downers just make you.. well, down.

Sex drive is :thumbup: unlike the past. Another unfortunate side effect of klonopin. I just honestly feel great.

I'll post any further progress here. I really don't care if anyone replies to this, I'll be able to look at it later when I'm off them and smile.

Good for you, man. :thumbup: Once you go totally baseline and can handle reality without those drugs your confidence will be sky high. Kinda ironic eh?

good luck.. i used to be on klonopin and my dose was only 2mg a day and still gettin off of it was hellish. tried cold turkey once and ended up getting seizure so it wasnt too good idea, then i tapered down to zero in about a month or so. benzo WD isnt painless but it?ll get better eventually

I'm trying for 2mg today, going to exercise and drink lots of water. Just to see what it's like.. still gotta wait awhile. :frown:

Good luck on that! I'm sure you can do it if you apply yourself. And it's wise to taper off - going cold turkey isn't advised if you've been on them for a while....

I just got prescribed klonopins about a week ago, only 0.5mgs though... at first I was excited like "yay a benzo" but now I'm realizing the baddities that can happen when you want to get off them. Originally I was going to try to have my doctor up the dose when I see him next but now I think I'll just let it be and try to chill, naturally.

If you NEED a benzo to chill out I'd recommend Xanax, it has a very short half-life and that means a lot less addicting than a 36 hour half-life.

Alot of kids around here take xanex.(bars) I have tooken them a few times 3 1/4 divided ones at most. Never knew they were addictive.

Whats the hoopla for rec. users? I dont remember shit I do and sometimes do/say things i wouldnt sober.

You're totally wrong on that one. The shorter the half life for a benzo, generally the more physically addictive it is. (That's why crack is more addictive than powder cocaine. EDIT: My mistake. That's not true. Crack is more addictive because it gets into the brain faster. ) Xanax is often considered the most addictive benzo in common use, although it depends on who you ask (it was for me).

Sustained release Xanax is different though...
