klonopin-social anxiety

i have a klonopin prescription to deal with social anxiety. it has helped me deal with my day to day anxiety, but i still get severe breakthrough anxiety and panic attacks at having to give a presentation or work on a project with a group of people in a class. the only thing that helps is xanax and my doc won't give me any. has anyone had any positive experiences with klonopin in dealing with situations that bring about the most anxiety? what's the proper way to ttake it? i take it every day as i'm prescribed but i will take a ton extra to try and kill the anxiety before i have to do something, but i can take upwards of 10mg and still get no relief and panic attacks will start up as usual. my doc insists that klonopin will get rid of this anxiety but it's been almost 2 years and clearly it is not working. i want to find a new doctor... but i don't think going around asking for xanax will be effective. only had small amounts of that few and far between but it works like a miracle for those specific situations.

I'm sorry to hear about your anxiety, I know from experience that it can be debilitating, and really take all pleasure out of life.
"i will take a ton extra to try and kill the anxiety before i have to do something" This is very dangerous, you will build a tolerance and soon you will be needing the amount that you used to take on a bad day, just to get through a regular one.
Are you planning to be on benzos for the rest of your life? If you haven't already, you are digging yourself onto a hole with one of the most difficult drugs to get off of. I hope you have fully explored all other alternatives.
Two years really isn't that long a time, if you want to continue to use benzos I would start to be totally honest with your doctor and focus on getting stable on a dose, as the tolerance ladder is a monumental pitfall.

Why won't your doctor give you Xanax? I get more fucked up off Klonopins than the Xanax.
Good luck to you.

Yeah, be careful with long term benzo prescriptions. I was prescribed 3mg xanax/day for ~6 years and when I finally realized what a zombie I'd become and tried to quit, it was the most excruciating 6 months of my life. I still don't remember ~9 months of that year at all, and I don't think I ever will. K pins have a longer half life, so they're not as easy to get hooked on, but given enough time it could very well happen. read up on benzo addiction here http://www.benzo.org.uk/ It's kind of a shitty looking web site, but it has a lot of good info. Stay strong smalls, social anxiety is a bitch, but you can persevere.

ya man don't become dependent on that shit. everyone has social anxiety you just have to overcome it yourself. its easier said then done obviously but it takes practice just like playing an instrument does. take a speech class and get a job that requires a lot of social interaction. Whats the worst that can happen? just throw yourself out there and you'll realize the anxiety you get is completely for no reason, people will obviously judge you your whole life if that's what your afraid of, but just say fuck em if they don't like you then move on to the next person. O and if you smoke a lot of pot quitting would help it tends to give me ridiculous social anxiety i don't know about you but it might help.

WOW thats alot for klonopin. I was on 4mg for 3 months and decided to quit. It really helped with anxiety for me. I was equivalent to drinking a couple beers. I wont go back to it though withdrawl was severe. Anxiety was 10 times worse.
I still haven't found a cure for anxiety so i cant help you there. I know that eating just meat and veggies helped a lot but i cant afford it right now

I am a cashier, so I get plenty of social interaction at work. I can get used to that by having to do it so frequently. But other aspects of my life still suffer tremendously. I may just try to find a different doctor. I know going down the path of being on medications, especially benzos, can be pretty dangerous. But i'm willing to do that. I'm going into my final year of college and then out into the real world and I'm desperate for something to give me some relief. Kratom is very helpful actually, but not for what I need necessarily.
Thanks for the responses

10 mg!!!!?
damn! If I took 10 mg's I would OD.
I would not use them everyday for a long period of time. Doing that is a bad solution in my opinion. It will lead to addiction and possibly eventually make things worse. Withdraw makes anxiety 10 x as bad.
I took 1mg for 1 month every night. It helped alot. I still had minor anxiety but I was alot more relaxed in social situations.
now I take them as needed. That's the only way I'll go now. Hell I'm actually out of perscription now and I don't plan on getting a new one. During the summer, for some reason, I don't feel as anxious.

that's the problem, your afraid of the anxiety. instead of waiting for it to go away before doing something, face the fear and tension and do it anyway and over time it will go away on it's own.

It works for me, the clonazapam which I'm guesing what your taking. Sorry to here your problems but what can you do? I've had one one good doctor and one good therapist out of the flock over time.
So doesn't it release the intensity of interaction with others and life in general. Maybe your mind is different than mine in how it interacts with chemicals but it's been a life saver for me.

Fuck that, what is better than benzos and coming off alcohol without sleepness nights. But to take it with alchohol is an extreemly wonderful body buzz.

OP i would say that if youre depending on something external to make you feel better your going at your disorder in the wrong way. search for some positive reading on anxiety, i think its better than any medicine.
if that is corny good.

I've read so many self-help books, (Don't sweat the small atuff was the best among others), but when you have mental problems that nothing can fix, just alliviate, I've found the benzos work best and it would be hard to convince me otherwise in my experience.

well them not being prescribed much anymore and the possibility of dying from with drawls is probably something a normal person doesnt want to be prescribed.
i have had my share of anxiety and if youre not having a panic attack you dont need medication.
its great for using to ease stress after the day is done but eating them all day will eventually lead you to a fog. your thoughts will be clouded when not on them, and worse when on them.
i can source why theyre so dangerous

I was on klonpin for about a year.. gradually stepped up from .5 a day to 4mg - 6 mg a day. Worked out great for me, long lasting, kept me level, and was still able to work out and be productive. Eventually I hit a tolerance ceiling of a sort and decided to quit. I had heavy withdrawals for about 3-5 days and didn't sleep normally for sleep. If and when you decide to stop it's in your best interest to reduce dose as slowly as possible. My anxiety was worse than before I took the meds for months, never thought it would get better but it did with time. Be curful.

If you need to come off some shitty pills what you need to do and i am speaking from experience is to SLOWLY tapper off of it. Doing it VERY SLOWLY is the key!
I had really bad anxiety like REALLY BAD! I have been on lots of pills to help. What worked for me was cipralex. I was on tons of other crap and it all made me have really shitty side effects this is the only thing that made me feel like myself again and in less the a week!
I highly recommended it!
And to all those other people who say oh just dont worry it, its all in you head well you can go fuck yourself.

There a pack of wild giraffes in africa.. The older, weak lions lions actully found out if they roar the will make the giraffes run away. So they would station other young lions directly into the pat of the girraffes. So if the giraffes had not been afraid of a roar then they would have livved,
MOral over the story is run toward the lions, Face your fear head on.Dont run away from your problems
