i have about 10 jars of BRF with verm. one got a big black contam spot so i chucked it. it stunk really really bad. the other 9 all look great, lots of white fuzz with no sign of contam. the only thing is, when i open the lids of any of these it reaks!! not as bad as the one that was contaminated for sure, but they still smell pretty bad like rotten fruit or something.. are these also contaminated, or is it just the smell fo the rice and the myc? thanks

Ouch, thats a tough one there.... the first time I ever did the PF-tek, I had that same thing happen, minus the black mold part... all my jars looked 'white' and 'seemed' to be growing quit healthy... and because I had never seen 'healthy' mycelium before, I figured that they WERE healthy, I was wrong, they REAKED of 'fruit', and were not mycelium... but some phunky assed mold that is white, this really sucked for me because no one else seemed to know anything about it, so I birthed them, cased them, caked them.... all that shit... my house was DANK with fruit, and NO shrooms. So my point being, if the so-called 'mycelium' does not look 'feathery', then start over, also the 'apple' or 'fruit' smell is most definately baad, do a 'search' on the word "fruit". sorry, hope that helps

it smells like feet too. haha ya im fucked. ohwell, first time i guess. ya, when i opend the lid the myc looks like a small ball of soft soft velvet, and then theres another spot that dosent look like the other stuff, like ryzomorfic growth, like realy tiny spikes all close to eachother. i think the stuff that looks more ryzomorfic is the good healthy myc? can you describe to me what really myc should look like when its either healthy or not to healthy, as long as its still mycelium thanks kev

You have a really great attitude about it, that is definately a good sign : ) 'healthy' myc should look something like this:
