easy to contam casing?

i just cased for the first time tonight. i've done lots of reading, and i think i did okay, but i just have a few questions. I heated a knife over alcohol flame, washed my hands very thoroughly, then used my hands to spread about 1/2 inch of 50/50+ casing to the bottom of the well cleaned casing pan. then I used my sterilized knife to cut up on cake into slices. then i used my hands and the knife to crumble up the other cake and fill in the gaps. then i used my hands to spread around the casing material (the casing material had been sterilized earlier and then let cool). so should i have been way more careful, what else can i do without setting up an operating room?

Sounds good. Casings are hard to contaminate unless they're too wet. In that case, you'll have a big mess on your hands. Just don't overwater it.
