The US post office will install machines that emit radiation, it is meant to destroy anthrax, but will kill ALL spores, seeds, and plants passed through it. this will close most of the spore vendors, certainly taking business down significantly! Order while it's still possible!

also... i am sure there will be a special protocol for things that can't be radiated, such as film, which would be ruined if transported by mail.... and hell this isn't ALL BAD.... If these machines work as well as they are supposed to, you could THEORETICALLY mail your jars to yourself to have the sterilized.... now wouldn't that be cool as shit! hahahaha.

Exactly.....there will be alternative methods of shipping living organisms. There are way to many businesses out there in the world that ship living matter that can not sterilized. It is way to early to tell how this will affect spores. So those of you expecting shipments from the sperm bank can stop worrying, most of them should survive the radiation.

Ok, I"ve been doing some reading on various websites about this. There is a lot of info on www.msnbc.com about this. The USPS did just buy 8 machines and is implementing them in the greater Washington metropolitan area. Now realize this, not all mail is going to be sanatized. It looks like goverment officials mail of course and eventually ppl who request it. There will be a price you will have to pay to have your mail irradiated. Here a are few snips I found on this subject "The cost of sterilizing the mail would be as cheap as 1 cent per letter, he said. Williams didn't speculate on the total cost of irradiating all U.S. mail, but assuming 682 million letters a day, that would compute to about $6.8 million a day, or about $2.5 billion a year. " So at that cost, there is no way the government is going to automatically irradiate all mail. Another snip it talks about its going to be offered as a service for those who wish to have their mail santatized. A few more snips "Ellis estimated it would cost an additional 30 cents to irradiate a typical letter using gamma rays. "If you had enough facilities (for irradiating mail), you could place them around the country," he said. He said he believed that irradiated mail first would be done as a limited, value-added service such as overnight delivery. Customers would pay a premium to have the mail they send irradiated and guaranteed as being free of any dangerous bacteria. One concern that still needs to be addressed, industry officials concede: What happens to food, and even film, that would be irradiated by the Postal Service? "There's no doubt it would expose film," Williams said. In addition, he pointed out that there are different standards for the amount of radiation recommended for various types of food. The level needed to sanitize mail might exceed U.S. standards for some foods. There are to many companies out there mailing products that can not have their mail irradiated. Obviously the government and postal officials must have thought of this to avoid billions of dollars in lawsuits just to protect the average citizen.

I've been doing a little homework on this and I talked to an old friend of mine who's a professional photographer. Many photographers use lead lined bags to protect their rolls of film in airport x-ray machines. These lead lined bags are neat, but I'm not 100% sure how spore vendors could apply something like this. Especially when they start off at about $20 a bag. Look at these bags here: http://www.simacorp.com/photo.html#filmshield Here's some info from the USPS website: http://www.usps.com/news/2001/press/pr01_1027titan.htm USPS begins buying electron beam systems to sanitize the mail The Postal Service yesterday awarded a contract to the Titan Corporation of San Diego, CA, to provide electron beam systems and services to sanitize mail. Titan will subcontract with its subsidiary SureBeam to provide the proprietary electron beam systems. According to PMG Jack Potter, one of the first areas to receive equipment will be the greater Washington Metropolitan Area, when delivery of the systems begins next month. The contract award, for approximately $40 million, is for the purchase of eight systems and includes an option to expand the order to purchase 12 additional systems. In addition to providing the equipment, The Titan Corporation will operate and maintain the systems. The Postal Service also has contracted to use a Titan facility to sanitize mail using electron beam technology. Lana
