PA is a pretty vast state. I visit it quite often.
The mushroom hunting there is great, in terms of general mushrooms. I have found some good edibles, and some really neat looking species both at high and low altitudes.

If you are seeking an active mushroom species, PA is usually hit or miss. The odds are pretty much against it. Deep within the woods certain species of Gymnopilus are sometimes found, but not frequently.
Pan. subb would be another species to check for possibly.

There is some beautiful scenery and good hiking/camping out there. Even if you don't go out for actives, check out some of the woodland growing species.. There are tons.

Pennsylvania really isn't that great for active mushroom hunting, but active mushrooms are indeed out there. I've found alot of some of the biggest Pan subbs I've ever seen in composted horse manure. Find a horse stable, thats probably your best bet. Good luck...

Dreaming of that face again.
It's bright and blue and shimmering.
Grinning wide
And comforting me with its three warm and wild eyes.

On my back and tumbling
Down that hole and back again
Rising up
And wiping the webs and the dew from my withered eye.

I have found Pan subbs and Gymnopilus spectabilis in western PA plus lots of good edibles.
