Time Travel and You
    #4343269 -

If someone came up and offered you a ticket to go back to one point in time and stay for 24 hours, bringing nothing along with you but you can bring one thing back. This thing can be an object or a person.

Do as you please within the normal constraints of the time you choose and then come back with all consequences of your actions intact.

What time period would you go back to? A point in your life, a point in history, or where?

Why would you go back?

What would your purpose be?

What ONE thing would you bring back with you?

What do you think the consequences of your actions would be?

Great post. I don't think I would go back in time, or at least, there's nothing off the top of my head I would go back in time and change. I guess that's because I'm a firm believer that everything happens for a reason, and meddling with the past would effect the present, which I am pretty damn happy with. I'll try to think of something though.

I feel the same way. I'm trying to choose a time to go back and spectate at least in...so many amazing choices.

i'd go back a few weeks only.  Pick the winning lotto powerball numbers, and come back and enjoy my 200 million   Very little impact on the time line.

The 2 things that immediately popped into my head when I read this post were as follows -
I could go back in time and break up with my ex sooner, instead of wasting 4 years of my life, and winding up miserable for a little while. Problem with that is, I learned a TON from my mistakes in that relationship, and I hope (I think) that reflects on my current relationship. I wouldn't be the person I am today if I hadn't been through that.

I could go back in time and bring my father back with me. He died when I was 6. But, that would result in my mother not marrying my stepdad...who is an awesome guy, and I wouldn't have my little sister. Who knows how different life would be. I wouldn't want to chance screwing up my family.

I didn't think of the fact that I could just go back and spectate. I think I would go back to last year, go to St Louis, and watch the red sox win the world series, in person. God, that would have been awesome.

I was actually contemplating this today..

I would either go back and meet HST on one of his crazy trips

Or, go back to meet Douglas Adams..

Everyone has been thinking about small things for themselves mostly, (no offence, great choices by everyone though) but what about the big picture?

What if I went back and killed hitler before he could rise to power?

How about if I grabbed Lee Harvey Oswald before he shot kennedy or looked into area 51 in roswell that fateful day?

Interesting question, there are so many wonderful answers. I don't think I could pick, there's too many things I could choose to do, or I could do it for myself, maybe boston back in 94 for Pearl Jam's live show where they played the ultimate setlist?

well, I'll have to think about this.

I thought of something big and completely world changing like that. But, I think that it would set off a completely unpredictable chain of events. LIke, if you killed Hitler before he did all that awful shit, you would have pissed a lot of people off, and started a potentially bigger war, since a lot of people were faithful followers of his. Just a thought.

'Tis true, very true.

That's also the point.  If you do kill hitler (or whatever), the chain reaction of that is so big that I don't think anyone could ever think about what it could do.  Oh well, guess I'll just stick with seeing PJ live at boston 94 for the greatest Pearl Jam show ever. :mrt:

And area 51 is nowhere near Roswell.  Area 51 is (or was) a government skunkworks where they built and tested shit like the stealth fighters.

Roswell is in New Mexico and the incident in 1947 took place on some private ranch land.  But it'd be fun to be there that day so I could debunk all the alien theories! :smirk:

Best answer yet.  I wouldn't even want it to be a matter of weeks.  Just jump back far enough in time after a big lotto drawing to get a winning ticket purchased.  I would want to change things as little as possible.  I believe all my life experiences up to now (both good and bad) have made me who I am and I'd be afraid to change myself into something I'm not happy with.  But It'd be nice to have money to spend the rest of my life doing the things I wanted to without regards for how I was going to pay for any of it.
