let us do a repeat of the fav guitarist thread.
who would you list as the top bassists that YOU love... not nesseccarily the "best ever"
mine would probably be the easiest:
vic wooten jaco pastorius keith horne charles mingus ray brown john paul jones bootsy collins oteil burbridge milt hinton john patitucci
i could go on for pages like this. i have been blessed enough in my life that i have played with vic, oteil, and keith (if you havent heard keith before, you would be stunned to hear him.) i got to meet john paul jones at one of his shows a few years back. i have also met bootsy and john patitucci at NAMM.

Les Claypool is too cool for school. That he hasn't been mentioned yet is bezoomny. From the vast Primus collection, to his dozens of side projects, Les draws from a vast and deep pool of seemingly limitless creativity. Tracks of Interest: Coddingtown from the Brown Album and Highball With The Devil from Highball With The Devil. Les is also a versatile vocalist, which might have no bearing on this discussion, but just proves how talented he really is.

Probably not the best but I've always liked Peter Hook from Joy Division.

Mike Gordon.

Claypool. Maybe not the best, but Primus gives me a hard-on, so I don't care.

yeah claypool is definitely awesome. i used to be big into primus, still listen to Frizzle Fry now and then cause it's my favorite one.
you guys heard Bernie's Bucket of Brains? it's Bernie something or other, keyboardist from i think parlament or some other funk band, buckehead, and the second drummer from primus who goes by brain. good stuff.. look for their set from bonaroo last year, i found it on soulseek and it kicks ass.

MATTHEW GARRISON!!!
If you have not heard Matthew Garrison, but you have decided on your favorite bassist, you might have to change your mind! IMO, the best composition, technical, and soloing skills by FAR. Get both of his albums from www.garrisonjazz.com. I like the first one a little more, but they are both amazing.

-------------------- I don't know if you are ready, but I'd like to offer the Truth of Dr. David R. Hawkins...http://www.veritaspub.com People talk about getting "the fear." There is simply a lack of inner confidence and comfort. Those people haven't studied any type of mind training. I suggest they seriously consider Qigong.

-------------------- The only thing that burns in Hell is the part of you that won't let go of life, your memories, your attachments. They burn them all away. But they're not punishing you, they're freeing your soul. So, if you're frightened of dying and you're holding on, you'll see devils tearing your life away, but if you've made your peace, then the devils are really angels, freeing you from the earth... bloodflower6 Yay for Pornography!
