I wouldn't be surprised if pioneer is just OEM'ing the NEC.

I own the NEC

it's an awesome drive and dirt cheap...plus you get DL support

i own the pioneer dvr-108, and it's very reliable... i've burned probably 4-500 dvd's so far, and only have had abut 10 mess up, usualy because i was doing other thist, like extracting a movie from my othter computer onto my drive as well as running quick par to check out another. i say the pioneer for sure...
