edible strain isolation and testing

hey all.. quick question, if one were doing edible isolation of say oysters or other mushies.. can you fruit just off cased grain to test the strain?

Test it how you will use it in the future. The inefficiency of fruiting on grain is huge, you can multiply your harvest by ten with simply spawning it into straw. If you want to test beds as opposed to bags or logs, just cover with perforated plastic, it will just fruit through the holes(hopefully).


I think that, besides yield, the most important characteristic of oysters is that they fruit at only bag openings and not behind plastic.

so you think its worth it to take each isolate and bring it all the way to straw? guess that makes sense.. just make a jar of each then a few bags of each and see how they do

Coir is another choice for a very small scale test. You really do need to fruit each substrain to find the best one.
