The languished trip reports and RSS.
    #4260898 - 06/05/05 08:28 PM (11 years, 6 months ago)

"How about a positive LSD story on the news one day?" - Bill Hicks

Why doesn't this site have a trip reports forum with high quality reports that could be made into an RSS feed to make Hicks' quotation a possibility?

With the new focus of this site being on "promotion" has anyone considered the languishing "trip reports" section? (Or probably no one cares?) You know what I'm talking about. "Reports" that start out like:

>Well me and my Friend J were goin to a party and we were hopin to score some dope there and get really fuckin trashed but J stoped byu a guy he knew and picked up some shroomes.I never tried them so I didn't care much, it would be fun.

And have conclusions like:

>Man that was fuckin fun but I still prefer pot over it.

Now I'm not trying to discount any ones experiences, but obviously there are more than several `reports' that are just downright trash. And we all know the first thing to be published from some yellow sensationalist journalist will be:

"And users of the illicit site are even encouraged to post their own 'trip reports', transcriptions of their drug induced experiences. One such user says, 'after about an hour a started feelingg like shit, stomach pains, really weird, hard to explain...and i closed my eyes, i thin i fell asleep, or i went unconsious but i woke up in the hospital the next morning to find both my parents, my brother and a nurse and a doctor all standing around
i had got my stomach pumped and i almost suffered a fatal overdose. im still popin shrooms today, but im careful not to eat so much. by the way im only 14'"

So why don't we create our own news feeds? (sans the above `quality') Major news media outlets are not going to use the feeds, but it is a start. I am sure many individual users would enjoy it nonetheless.

Something like what you suggested actually is in the works.

You make some great points too.

Me too. I've written two trip reports that I personally think are worth someone's while and this would be a great incentive to write up a few more. I'm lazy. I need incentives. :smirk:

I don't know about press releases... although there HAS been some talk...

But a Trip Reports Sub-Forum is coming.

All the Past and Future trip reports WILL have a home... and I imagine they will be categorized by substance.

Cool, I was wondering for a while about that when I tried to submit a trip report and saw it was only for shroom-related trips.  This is good news.

>I don't know about press releases

You mean in regard to the RSS idea or revealing project info? I saw this the other day:
http://www.bluelight.nu/vb/showthread.ph...=156175&r=5

It looks pretty cool, but wouldn't it be alot cooler to have it for interesting first hand stories (trip reports in this case) rather than re-reported AP drudgery? I haven't used RSS yet, but my understanding is that you can select a bunch of your own personalized feeds and then read them on your own php enabled blog/website.

Erowid's guidelines and mechanisms for picking out trash trip reports are pretty good. Perhaps the shroomery should look to them for inspiration.

You can rate the Trip Reports 5 shrooms if they are up to par...

I think The Shroomery needs a volunteer review system, like Erowid.
