Hola peoples.
Well.. we've had some warmer temps recently here in Georgia, and it rained a ton last night, so me and my huntin buddy decided to check our spot. On the walk down to our spot, we noticed some mushrooms growing on the side of a horse path. I have never seen them before, so I have no clue what they are... They've got dark gills, brown to rust colored caps. Stems are thick. They stood about 2 inches tall, caps about an inch wide, a stubby looking mushroom. I did notice some type of remnience of a veil on some of the specimens picked. I am about to chop the stem off for a spore print, I'll let ya know how that goes.
Heres the pic:
Forgot to add that there was no bluing reaction...
Peace out,
-Gumby

Those look like an Agaricus species--possibly A. brunnescens? Chocolate brown spores would confirm this.

Its the all too common velvetly psathyrella, it does vary in form under different conditions. This time of year GA is covered in these things, they have tooken over my weilii patch in a matter of days :)
Take a closer look at those "veil remnants" it should be a partial veil that is purple in color, the gills should also be purple. The velvety cap, and the scaly/hairy stalk is a dead give away. I've picked thousands apoun thousands of these mushrooms over the past few years, I promise you those are Psathyrella velutina. They ain't good fer nothing, they say they are edible, but that don't mean they taste good :)
LK,

Heh, the shrooms in your picture look almost exactly like the ones I found. I'm taking a spore print right now, should be done tomorrow. The mushroom had a very Agaricus smell to it.
Whoever asked- I am in northeast Georgia.
Peace out,

I picked a bunch of 'em yesterday, and a few more this morning . The things are everywhere! They are kinda cute though ya have to admit!
I took pics of the same thing and posted them last night for an ID. This is about the third or fourth pic post of these same mushrooms in a few days.
