The Eels
    #4193824 -

I saw The Eels for the second time. First in San Diego, but last week at the Roxy in LA.

The first show was a full band...amazing...E enters walking through the crowd on someones shoulders...playing the harmonica and band playing the Shootnanny theme. 5 encores later and breakdancing complete with head spins...I left completely rocked out.

Last week in LA...it was E without the band. Just him and 3 violins, a chello, stand up bass. It was basically an accoustic show with lots of solo and piano and just the right ammount of rocking out with songs you know..but in a totally new way. Their whole tour this time around is going to be like this.

I love them.....E just rocks out with beatiful emotion, lyrics & music. The guy is pumping out music.

Does anyone else agree???

I don't really know them at all. What are some must-hear songs?

I used to be a HUGE fan of the Eels, but Shootenanny and their newest record have me quickly losing interest in them...I feel like they've lost their knack for sounding original and interesting at the same time. They still sound original..but...

Souljacker is still a great album though. Same with My Beloved Monster.

Jacques, if I were you I'd download World of Shit, Souljacker, Dog-Faced Boy.

BTW, I'd appreciate it if someone fond of their newer work would give me a couple recommendations from that era as well, so I can judge for myself.

Off the brand new album....i suggest "Trouble with Dreams" , "Hey Man ( now your really liven)" and "Going Fetal". The new album is pretty slow.

One more robot suggested some great Souljacker stuff. As a whole package..it's awswome. Singling out individual albums or songs is a hit and miss according to your tastes.

Trouble with dreams is pretty cool. His voice reminds me of someone, but I don't know who... almost a Beck meets Cake voice... the whole thing is rather strange, but definitely pretty cool.

I think I'll add it to my trip playlist... but musically it's just too cool to pass up...

Going Fetal wasn't as good. Heh...

i saw em live at lollapalooza 97 on a side stage

someone was on the mic before they went on yelling at me to "put your hacky sack away. this isn't a hippie fest"

Snoop dog was on the main stage at the same time. E got on the mic and started screaming trying get the sound to pour over to the main stage, making fun of him.. heh
