mcafee's knob overlook photos.. (part of appalachian trail)
    #4179945 -

Today, since my roommate had the day off, and I had nothing better to do, we decided to hit up the AT. It's only a small 3.5 mile portion of the trail, but the view is spectacular. If anyone's familiar with Virginia, it's right outside of Salem (near Roanoke).

it really made me want to try a much larger portion of the trail. that would be a great life experience, plus there are countless sights to see on it not entirely unlike this one.

enjoy:

Beautiful views. Makes me want to take a road trip and see the awesomeness of the American geography.

well my parents are from a little town in WV called martinsburge so i can relate to you there. ive been mountain climbing in harpers ferry, which is the most beautiful and captivating town. ive never done the appalachian trail but i have stood ontop of a mountian that overlooks the meeting of the shanadoha and potamac rivers aswell as the two mountain ranges.

I live in Pennsylvania and could walk

those trails anytime I want, I guess.

But I never have.  Looks like I'm

missing out.  Awesome pictures.

Actually me and a friend were thinking of doing the whole trail next summer. I think averaging about 2 miles a day is a very very slow pace. I think somewhere closer to 10-13 miles a day would be more accurate...

my buds and I smoked a blunt in that exact same spot during spring break, our campsite was in the meadows. You could only walk about 5 miles a day too.. The "trail" is up and down, littered with loose rocks, and at times it gets to be 3 ft wide with a steep drop on the side. Not safe for stoned hiking, but man was it fun.

big area. too much traffic for me though it is a nice place to visit.

i'm presently in the radford/new river valley area right now. ever down this way?

toiletduk: ever been to mountain lake near Pembroke, VA? there's a killer view up there too, i think the spot is called White Rocks. good camping spot too. there's even a little spot for a small tent and fire right next to the overlook.

Yeah... that's why I left last year. Waaaay too much traffic. Sometimes it would take me an hour or two just to get a mile or two through my town.. let's not even mention the beltway or rush hour.

Yes I've been to Radford many times.. I have some friends that are in school down there.. whats the school there JMU? Or is it Radford U..
