i have tuns and tuns of mycellium. buttloads of it. i have it in jars, petri dishes, a terrarium, and tupperwares. what i don't have is mushrooms. i am using richard hawk's 50/50 plus casing mix. giving the mycelium about three hours of light perday (it's on a timer). and my humidity is high. mabe to high? any body got any advice?]

Wait? How long has it been since you cased? It takes about two weeks to see pins on a casing. I'd give them more light if possible.

it has only been about two weeks puscle. but there is starting to be significant mycellium growth on top of the casing, and i don't think that is good. but i am probably wrong. anyway.,.,.,.,.puscle you are always on the ball with regards to a quick response,.,.,.,.thanks,.,.,.,.,.,are you always on this site?

Only if it forms a thick mat that covers the whole surface. (or threatens too) You want to see mycelia. You're fanning, yes? And misting once a day? Good! You should see pins soon. Hang in there.

yeah kinda. you dont want overlay... try lowering the humidity and maybe the temp. what temperature are they at right now?

basically i think it is just mycellia.. it ismainly fluffy tufts coming through the casing.

i think the temp has been dropped at night because i have been leaving my windows in my house open and it is starting to get cold outside. will this be enough? also, say i start to develop pins; What would be a good method to lwoer the humidity? currently i have a wet layer of perlite underneath the tray wich contains the substrate and mycelium. it is a glass terrarium with a sarran wrap lid that is hanging from a frame. Should i cut a small hole in my lid?

Fan more often, or reduce the perlite. I just fan and mist 1 time a day when its not pinning, when it is fruiting i fan 3 times a day and no mist till i harvest.

Fozzy, I don't think that will help. More growth occurs during warm temps.

I've never had to drop temps to induce pinning with cubensis. Others may differ.

i just got my first pinheads in my first casing on my first flush ever! i cased in straight verm and i have a glass aquarium for my terranium with perlite in it. my casing is just sitting on top of the perlite. i have saran wrap on the top with the lid over the saran wrap. as soon as i saw mycelium poking through my verm case i removed the saran wrap and put in terranium with a 60 watt flourescent fixture above it. i didn't lower any temps or anything to initiate pinning and i have about 50 PINHEADS in a 9x13 size pan. i'm VERY proud of myself!!
my temp stays around 72-75 normally and i had an analog hygrometer which i have ALREADY chunked (piece of !@#$)
so i don't know exactly what the humidity is but there is little condensation on the glass. maybe give em a little light
