casing stalled?
    #443999 - 10/31/01 10:16 PM (23 years, 4 months ago)

i cased two PF jars (sliced one and crumbled the other) with 50/50 plus some chalk cause I couldn't get oyster shell or non-dolomitic lime. I cased a week ago. I got good growth the past week, and about a day and a half to two days ago I started getting a couple very promising spots where fuzzy white pins which I assume are going to become real pins started to branch up from the mycelium layer which was nicely but not overly colonizing my casing. It's in a tray on perlite in a rubbermaid with a saran wrap covered window cut in the top. The problem is, the little "pins" don't seem to have changed at all in the past two days. Is something wrong. My humidity gauge just broke (walmart piece of crap), but the setup was reading 99% almost all the time before it broke. Is the humidity too high? Is there some other reason It's stalling? I'm fanning 3 times a day and the lights on in my room probably 8 to 12 hours a day. Temp is a pretty consistent 72-74. Is something wrong or is this right?

It was 15+ days untill I saw pins finally form on my casing. Keep patient a few more days.

humidity is way to high for casings, to promote pinning ideal humidity should be between 90-94%, after pinning drop it down to 85-90.

leave the lid on the rummbermaid open for a little bit to lower it, that should be all you need to do.
