Could anybody recommend a morel hunting guide?

I know there are thousands out there, but which ones would you recommend for a novice mushroom hunter living in the PNW?

Best place for info is www.mushroomexpert.com

They're all about the morels. The guy who runs the site is super nice and super knowledgable as well.

Thanks Gumby!

On a random note, what do morels taste like in comparison to, lets say a portebello?

The best advice I can give you is walk around in the woods, for a long long time. Morels do not grow in areas that commonly flood,. They like to grow under elm trees, and around mayapples.
