cubensis on guinea pig poo [pix]
    #4090817 - 04/24/05 05:33 AM (12 years, 1 month ago)

Hello everyone!

I did a little experiment with guinea pig poo. I haven?t used any kind of poo before. I?m quite newbie anyway. I crumbled one BRF-cake in to guinea pig poo and verm mix. After it colonized I cased it with coco/verm. For some reason casing layer colonized almost totally. Mycelium looks bit odd to me. Here?s some pics:

This is yesterday. Sorry about the flashlight.

Today. Last night I picked mushrooms from the upper left corner.

Any comments?

You would have had a better pinset had you put it into fruiting conditions sooner. That casing is very overgrown. How long did you incubate it for.

I put it in the terrarium right after i cased it. I keep my terrarium in the middle of my living room. No extra light. I thought there was enough natural light.

Air exchange, temp, humidity??? What kind of casing layer? How thick was your substrate and how thick was your casing layer?>

I have several and I will tell you that picking that many turds out of cedar chips would be a task, their poop is tiny...

Well you could use newspaper or brown paper bags instead of cedar chips, that would make it easier.

I fan terraruim 2-4 times a day. Temperature has been between ~20-34C, mostly ~25C. Casing layer is 1:1 coco coir / vermiculite. 1 cm thick. Substrate is 3-4cm thick. What would be best thickness for substrate and casing layer in cm? Humidity is > 92 all the time.

Yes, picking all the turds is quite a task but it?s not that hard.

Here?s Kalle and some Cambodians.

just try and then let us know about it!
i also use guinea pig poo - for gourmets -... instead of making a bed with cedar chips i use shredded newspaper and straw pellets. Then i just pick all the bed and use it. Sometimes i also use oak chips when i found them

Your temps are way too high. 34C!?? Thats even too high for incubating, let alone fruiting.
Thats where the overlay may come from.
Also overlay happens easier on coir then on peat.

I stay between 20-24C. Never had overlay. Sometimes @ night temp drops to 17C. No problem!

Sub thickness: between 5 and 10 cm is very good!

Muxt ssay nice experiment, adjust some parameters and your results will increase! Maybe mix some horse- sheep- worm- rabbit- or deerpoo in it to increase volume. Also straw is a good sub.

I used to have 3 plus all the deer poo I find all over the yard, it works but horse poo is easier and more effective

cubensis on dog poo [Re: Prisoner#1]

Has anyone ever used dog poo as a substrate? My dog shits A LOT, and it'd be nice to make use of it all, plus I wouldn't mind cleaning it out of the yard that way.
