do I submerge the entire heater?
    #4042799 -

I just bought this fishtank heater from a thrift store, so it didn't come with any directions.

Can I submerge the whole thing including the turny-knob, or will that start a fire?

Yes, submerge the entire thing. You can also drill a hole and place the heater in w/ silicone. Makes for easy adjustments without removing tubs.

All of the ones I have used were classed as submersible but every single one leaked a tiny bit and eventually rust formed inside

Gurgling noises? Sounds like a cracked heater to me...I had two of the blow up on me in my fish tank and they did the same thing.

Would have been cool to see fish get electrocuted but it didn't happen.

well it stopped gurgling and it's working fine. I might do a heatbomb, cause now that it's TiT I can't fit it into the drawer anymore. But the heater is really long, and a heatbomb would take up so much room in my incubator...
