More than 6,000 marijuana plants seized in one day

A joint operation by members of the local Interagency Drug Enforcement Unit and the State Bureau of Investigation led to the seizure of 6,915 marijuana plants - having a street value at maturity of over $20 million - in Vance County April 5.

Pilots with the SBI and North Carolina Highway Patrol spotted two makeshift plant beds, which contained the marijuana plants.

One hundred sixty plants were located in a plant bed off Doctor Finch Road and 6,750 plants were in a large plant bed concealed with green plastic about 200 yards from Alice Faye Lane in the Island Creek Estates area.

Local drug agents walked into these areas and confiscated, and later destroyed, the plants. Agents have a suspect in one of the cases.

Anyone with information leading to the arrest of these individuals, or to more marijuana plants and their locations, can contact the Interagency Drug Enforcement Unit at 252-430-0888. All information will be kept strictly confidential and a reward is being offered.
