Ultrasonic and coolmist times
    #3950254 - 03/21/05 07:22 PM (11 years, 8 months ago)

I did a search and must've read for days about marthas but now I cant remember what the times are for running the ultrasonic and the coolmist, and which one should turn off and all that. Can someone that has experience with this please help me out or point me in the right direction. Much appreciation for any help.

the size of the martha is important

just turn on the ultrasonic until you get to your desired humidity, then turn it off. wait till it drops agains, then do another cycle to bring it back up. note the time, do it again. you will then be able to make a 24hr to keep a pretty constant RH

you have to tweak it a bit yourself (to get desired RH).
Its the ultrasonic that you put on a timer.. when reading about this i saw someone said that they put theirs on 20 mins every 2 hrs..

a 24 setting on/off a day timer will work

try 15mins every hour and half, w/out coolmist, w/ coolmist on youll need 15 every hour or so. thats just a starting point. tweak from there. have fun!

walmart yes, ace not sure, hardware stores not sure, but i just bought both today (waiting to arrive) and from what i've read a good starting point is 24/7 cool mist, 15min every hour or 2 for the ultrasonic, GL as i'm in the same boat as you

You can get them everywhere. Here is what you need. 1 timer that has 15 minute intervals with at least 6 on and off settings. At lowes these are about $11. This is for the ultrasonic. Be careful, most stores lowest intervals are 30 minutes. You'll want a timer for your lighting as well, which doesn't need 15 minute intervals so it'll only cost $5.

For time setting. Try once per 4 hours. So thats 6 times a day your ultrasonic comes on. If you think the RH is still low after that, start moving the hours down a bit, maybe 3 then 2. I know of people that use theirs on 4 hours. Hope this helps

The cool mist is on 24/7, no need for a timer.

They are all over the place use a intermatic timer with 14 on off settings per day. Home Depot has em for sure for 23 bucks.

By the way 10 to 15 min every few hours should be a good place to start your times. They change with the time of year and depending on where you live.

Thanks guys great input. Now a relatively lame question considering this has probably been asked a million and a half times. And probably will still be asked a million more. But whats a good humidity guage? I used to use an electronic one in my PMP until the damn condensation killed it. And through experience I knew with perlite that my humidity was going to be right on if proper water levels were kept. But in my martha I wanted to see if there was a hygrometer kinda like the one in the bulk grow picture that belonged to either magash or agar. But it looked all plastic and I need something that is kinda similar and would give martha proper readings, and a good place to get it at.

Thanks guys for all the help and patience.
