Found this stuff. It works well. Safe to spray on vegies the day of harvest. Bruises the ports a little but they recover in less then 24 hours. Better then having flies and worms.

That's nice to see. Especially when the time and seasons have come to need something like that. Thanks for sharing.

Here soon, I'll have all sorts or headaches with those mother_uckers. I've been using open jars of apple cider vinegar to trap'em with. But once they set one foot on your casing it seems they lay eggs just as fast. You might as well chuck'em.

Does sprinkling diatamous earth on your casing work against gnats? I had a nasty run with those things last summer.

I hate fungus gnats!!
Back when I used to grow, I had a bad infestation. I was growing other things as well, and they had infested my plants' pots.
Lowering humidity (for the plants) and getting rid of any standing water in the grow room helped to keep them from multiplying any more. Couldnt get rid of them for months. I swear every once in a while(two years later) I still see one of the little buggers.
I was at the point where I was going to order some hypoaspis predatory mites, or attempt something like inoculating the casing with Steinernema, but instead I opted to quit growing altogether.
Joshua, i believe, recommended neem oil. I never got to try it, but it may be worthy of research for you guys...

The thing about an insecticide spray is that I don't know if it would get to the larvae down in the myc under the casing layer. Those buggers are tough to kill.

My experience with fungus gnats is they are breeding in your houseplants, and the adults are attracted to your myclium for a meal. It's rare to have them attempt to breed/nest in a casing. The larvae can be treated with a BT that's specific to fungus gnats. I've used this one on my houseplants to knock out the maggots. http://www.gardensalive.com/product.asp?pn=1962 Of course, the sticky traps help too.

I had problems with gnats too. They did come from my houseplants. I had a tree that I kept outside in the summer, and when I moved it iside there were a ton of gnats all of a sudden. BT is good, so is neem oil. I also put up fly tape. Don't mess with predatory insects... I'm willing to bet that they carry bacteria too...
