Interested in quitting smoking?
    #3905195 - 03/11/05 10:33 PM (19 years, 21 days ago)

I reached a breaking point with my cigarette habit where I knew it was finally time to quit.  With a lot of willpower and the assistance of a cold turkey website, it became a reality.  It's been 7 days, the worst of it is over.  I can't tell you how good it feels to be back again.  As a habitual smoker you truly don't realize how much your body is going downhill, until you quit and experience what it's like to feel normal again.  Normal feels amazing:  Smells, taste, energy levels...everything returns.  Goodbye to fatigue as well.  If you're bordering on quitting smoking, don't stall anymore; just do it.  Get this poison out of your body and you'll start feeling shit hot again, trust me. :smirk:

^That picture was enough motivation for me.  I don't want to put my family through that crap.  Age 34, lung cancer.^

and to quit to smoke, you can not only take the brake..

if you can not have cigarettes in you pocket, and not smoking them, you did not stop smoking, you stop buying smoke...

only one way there is to complete smoke stop, and that is stopping it.. 'n focused

Alan Carr - The Easy Way to Quit Smoking, is the best book i know, i smoked for 9 years, picked up this book, and by the end of it i was free , i never had any withdrawls and i used to smoke 30-40 a day, this book is truly amazing stuff, i recommed it to anyone who seriously wants to quite.

I had to order mine from the UK unfortunalty, but it was worth every penny and more.

Physical withdrawls from nicotine are a myth. Its all psycological. If you read the book you will discover.

There are physical withdrawals involved, after all your blood sugar level plummets the first 3 days.  That part was not fun, and I was definitely feeling it.  Could hardly sleep, stuffing my face all day.  Don't tell me there aren't physical withdrawals.  It takes about 72 hours to get the nicotine completely out of your system.

Once you get past those 1st three days, it's beautiful.  My cravings are almost 100% gone and it's only been about 8 days.

It goes away, fast.  The key is making it through the first 72 hours, and never taking another puff.  Don't justify it by saying "Oh I'll smoke a few, it's better than smoking a pack!"  NOT

No..more...nicotine.  You gotta purge your system. Once it's out, it's out.

If you make it a week and you decide to smoke another cigarette because you've made it "this far", it's over.  That's called relapse, and the nicotine is back in your system.  Game over, back to the beginning.

Cold turkey is the only way to go.

I quit before for a few months. I've been smoking for about 7 years. There are definately physical withdrawels. I become very irritable, tired, have changes in appetite etc... It's hell quitting, but I need to quit for good.

Why would your blood sugar levels fall, do cigarettes contain a much needed dose of sugar? Nicotine takes just over 30 minutes to be cleared from you bloodstream, once that's happened its gone, and your blood circulation returns to normal. Cold turkey isn't necessarily the only way, as cigarette addiction is mainly psychological, something must address that psychological factor, that you perceived some pleasure in smoking in the first place, until that illusion has been smashed, you'll be left feeling short-changed. It took my 2 hrs to read the book, by the end i was free, no withdrawals, I'm not kidding!

Marijuana isn't physically addictive and I had to give that up for a year after being arrested. That was easier than quitting cigs, but I also had the "I don't wanna go back to jail" train of thought for motivation.

I don't know why exactly, but according to the site your blood sugar level plummets. Mine definitely did. Maybe this will explain a little, egghead1:

From the site:

"The body's nicotine reserves decline by about half every two hours. It's not only the basic chemical half-life clock which determines mandatory nicotine feeding times, when quitting it's also the clock that determines how long it takes before the brain begins bathing in nicotine free blood-serum, the moment that real healing begins.

It can take up to 72 hours for the blood-serum to become nicotine-free and 90% of nicotine's metabolites to exit the body via your urine. It's then that the anxieties associated with readjustment normally peak in intensity and begin to gradually decline.

But just one powerful "hit" of nicotine and you?ll again face another 72 hours of detox anxieties. It's why the one puff survival rate is almost zero. None of us are stronger than nicotine but then we don?t need to be as it is simply a chemical with an I.Q. of zero. It does not plot, plan or conspire and is not some demon within us. Our most effective weapon against it is, and always has been, our vastly superior intelligence but only if put to work."

So in all actuality, nicotine remains in your system for days.

Yeah, interesting isn't it? All smokers interested in quitting should spend some time on that site awhile. That's all it took for me.

"The ex-smoker will find themselves enjoying a deep and rich sense of inner quiet, calmness, and tranquility once their temporary journey of re-adjustment is substantially complete."

^awesome line, so true.^ did you get this too egghead1?

I definately felt better after quitting before, I've just gotta muster up enough will power to do it once and for all. Even getting high and drunk feels better without cigarettes.

How long have you been smoking NFF? I wouldn't let the habit go on and on if you have a chance to correct it now.

Yes but my experience was more ecstatic, like 'Yes! I'm finally free, tailing off into a sense of calm and tranquility.'. But i  swear i had no with-drawl symptoms. Maybe i just wasn't aware of them, but to me they never happened
