Re: Can anyone play the Mystic chord / Synthetic chord? [Re: spores]

I know all the modes of the major and pentatonic(and pentatonic blues) scale and I intend to practice/experiment more with it but to broaden my 'scale horizon' I also wanted to learn a new scale

check out the less traditional easter scales if you want something really new. Like gypsie/baltic/arabic sounding stuff.

ok, thanks for explaining

I know the major scale and the pentatonic scale(min amd maj; same fingersetting) and I found the both very usefull. Maybe because these are the most commonly used scales in western music?

But I want to learn more... what would be the most usefull scale to learn next to these? maybe harmonic minor? give me some suggestions and why they it be usefull.

i'd say learn all the modes: Ionian, Dorian,Phrygian, Lydian, Mixolydian, Aeolian, and Locrian. Quite simple to learn, really. Ionian is just the major scale. Then to play the dorian, you just start the scale on the "two" and end it on the "two", etc. On the guitar, this allows you to be able to travel up and down the neck to wherever you want to be...

Here is some site that explains it a bit...
