Lmao, he probably just doesn't want to put this person out there like that, which is respectable, he wants to find a reasonable solution to this problem, not a backwood hick solution, but I doubt it was a chick cos I think boxtop is married? I dunno tho that's his business, all that matters is that he should get paid back by said person.

I know a few a people in New York that you could call, I'm sure every one knows a few people like them... you know that either get your money back, or teach the guy a lesson... I'm not in to giving bruises to people my self... but you trusted that guy, that means you know him quite well... if he got taught a lesson may be he wouldn't do it again!!! and the world is a better place... evaluation goes on... :stoned: :stoned:

Well, if he lived near me I'd definitely go give him a $2,000 ass kicking, unfortunately he lives on the west coast which is thousands of miles away.

This person happens to be a mod here at the shroomery btw.

One part of me wants to expose this deadbeat and another part of me wants to just let it go.

The thing that pisses me off is that I see him giving advice on the board and he alway comes over as some self righteous saint.

I've loaned money to friends in the past without problems.........never again though because of this asswipe.

What bothers me most is that I told him I really couldn't afford $2,000 but he pleaded to me over and over that he would DEFINITELY pay me back, even if he had to sell his boat to do it.

I loaned him the money and he never called me again.......not even to say he wasn't going to pay.

Actually, that would be an illegal recording of a phone conversation. It's not admissible and it's very illegal. Take the guy to court if you need to. Someone borrowed my 650$ GPS about a year ago and then practically vanished. I figured that it was a total loss, he never answered his phone when I called and I didn't know where he lived. I went to the police and they said that he couldn't be charged because I had voluntarily given it to him and that I'd have to take him to civil court. The cop was nice enough to call the guy and leave him a message saying that he was aware of the situation and wanted a call-back. I got my GPS back the next day.

2000 dollars and less can be taken to small claims court, however with the amount of time that's passed and no written agreement I don't know how much help the legal system will be. Unless you have a way of pestering this person in person you might be s.o.l.

Lesson learned, chalk it up to bad luck and in the future write and have signed (notorized if necessary) a promissory note, then no matter what happens you will get you money some how.

Sorry to hear this man, people will try to do anything they can to get free money.

I think it depends on the state. As long as one of the parties is aware of the recording, I believe it's legal in some. At least that's what I learned from reading about that taped conversation with George Bush.

I think the only thing you're getting out of this situation is a lesson. Use better judgment next time and do not be so trustworthy. Money can cause people to do some pretty nasty things.

Why would you want to protect this guy. He is a lying cheat, hopefully karma will catch up with him. Give his Shroomery name, people should know what kind of person he really is. No more hiding behind the computer screen.
