The reason it was in the paint section is because alumina silicate has microscopic honeycomb pores, and is ideal for paint spills...Sorry, but I don't think it will work as a dessicant, though the silica may pull a minimal amount of moisture, but even a fan would probably do a better job than that.

Products such as Damp-Rid will usually be found in the Household section of the grocery store, near the detergents. It is a very common product for reducing humidity in cabinetry, so don't worry about asking for help in finding it...
