Hi, new to posting but long time reader. Just wanted to share a cheap effective way to re-use damp rid, to ease your shroom drying needs. DAMP-RID is a moisture absorber, commonly found at all hardware stores, walmart, target etc. It comes in a refillable plastic jar, however it works so effectively at removing moisture that you regularly find yourself having to dump the moistened desiccant and having to buy refills. This is costly and unecessary.
All you need is: 1. Bowl/ container that can withstand heat from an oven. 2. Damp-Rid 3. Foil
Steps: 1. heat oven to minimum temperature, usually 200 degree F. . Please NEVER higher.
2. line bottom of container with foil to prevent damp-rid from touching the actual container.
3. place moistened/used damp rid in the container making sure it only touches the foil.
4. place in oven and let her dry.
5. remove from oven, let cool, and break apart the damp rid which should be stuck to foil with a hammer. Break it apart until it is of consistency similar to unused Damp-Rid.
*NOTE* DAMP RID during the drying process sticks to all containers LIKE GLUE. That is why we use foil, to prevent it from permanently sticking to your bowls/ containers. We use the minimum temp of ovens, to prevent boiling of moistened Damp-Rid. Boiling may cause spillage and creates a mess.

Sounds like a lot more expensive than going out and buying some more damprid. To reconvert it to it's anhydrous form you will need to heat it for a good while and electricity or gas for the oven costs money.

all true haha, but consider this. Each refill is 9.99. One refill is good for one flush or 2 flushes. 10 dollars per flush + gas + time spent @ store. An american's average natural gas bill a month is $48.98 in november, this includes the eastern half of America who are regularly using gas heaters. I still believe it is cost effective.

I've heard of ppl that use silica gel reusing it many times by throwing it in the oven.

Depends how much you have, but especially how thinly you spread it out. If you spread it out on a flat baking sheet covered with foil, at a depth of only a cm, it could take as little as 20 minutes. More surface area= more water exposed to air=> faster drying time.
