I was pondering, staring at cakes the other day. Would an everclear (pure grain alcohol) dunk extract psyilocybin from the cake? Kinda like every herb can be made into a tincture, I was wondering if that would work. I'd love any information you guys got... peace

my wookie freaky friend had some success on extracting the goodies out of mycelia... mostly cakes, and a few abhorts.
he has used anhydrous methanol but the stuff purity was fairly below the expected, thought it did work, he says.
but he tells you its more worth to effort on getting shrooms to fruit cause mycelia cakes aren't as strong as carpophores...
my wookie friend will post he's extractions experiences with carpophores as soon as done... that must be worthful.

i hate witty sigs / if anything i say has something in common with reality, this is a merely a coincidence.

Extraction and analysis of indole derivatives from fungal biomass.
Journal of Basic Microbiology, 1994, 34(1):17-22.

Abstract: The occurrence and extraction of indole derivatives in six species
from four genera of higher fungi were investigated. By using pure methanol
for extraction of the mushrooms analysis revealed the highest
concentrations of psilocybin and baeocystin. The psilocin content of the
species was higher by using aqueous solutions of alcohols than with
methanol alone but was an artificial phenomenon caused by enzymatic
destruction of psilocybin. The extraction with dilute acetic acid yielded
better results than with the water containing alcohols. The simple one-step
procedure with methanol for the quantitative extraction is still the safest
method to obtain the genuine alkaloids from fungal biomass.
