Employers Against Smoking
    #3692861 - 01/28/05 11:45 AM (12 years, 6 months ago)

http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=st...esmokersasadrag

i think this is total bullshit. First of all, a large majority of the american population drinks coffee, or some form of caffeine as a stimulant.

Its really fucking stupid when you think about it, especially in cities like new york and los angelas where starbucks is extremely popular (and getting that way all over the u.s.) shit man, a mocha at a coffee shop, medium size costs close to 3 dollars. if you have 2 a day (more likely to have more, in other forms as well) you are talking atleast 6 bucks a day on coffee. for a smoker that smokes a pack or less a day, its 5 dollars a day.

Coffee is ALSO considered to be a health risk! i mean good god, let people DO AS THEY WANT!!!!! indoors, yes i can see not allowing smoking, thats understandable, but what people do in their free time with LEGAL drugs, is their own god damned business, and their own choice.

However, people consider smoking a disgusting habit. Maybe they dont consider the fact that the exhaust fumes from vehicles in a heavy populated city make the air quality WAY worse than smokers can ever make it. Where do you think all those disposable cups you buy from starbucks end up? they either end up on the streets or in a dump that is already full.

What are youre thoughts?

Yes and smokers are always outside, smoking.  I could see employers getting fed up when everytime they turn around, this guy is smoking ciggarretes outside.

I'd think about quitting for cash bonuses and Ipods though

Fungushungry, I think he was refering to an employer telling you that you cant smoke.

It isnt an emloyer's place to tell me what I can or cant put in my body. Not smoking at work I can understand, but to tell me that I cant smoke a cig at home.

Thats wrong!

Huge post already about this HERE in PAL. Just posting a link here so you can read what others have had to say about it. I think it's ridiculous that they could do something like this. But, I'll leave it at that. If you wanna know more about how I feel you can read all about it in the link provided.

Yes, in that article the employers are not hiring smokers, and firing those who wont quit.

if you dont like smoking thats fine! i have no prob with that and i understand it! however, cigarettes are LEGAL and smoking should not even be part of the application process, and quitting should DEFINATELY not be required for you to keep your job.

It's just another thing that puts Americans in a prisoner state.

Yes it does look as if we are headed in that direction and we are losing the battle. But to quote Hunter S. Thompson when he was asked the question what advice he might have for this generation he said "Heh, try going out and voting in November. No, you're not gonna win. You can't beat them. You can at least slow em' down though. Heh, just remember, you don't have to join em'" - 2002
