it seems that the shrooms grow smaller and slower, and deformed when you grow invitro. it also seems that they pin later when you birth them though. i would tell you to prolly case, but that takes some experience and theres a chance they will get fucked up. if you do cakes right then you will deffinately grow, but if you dont do them right you might not get anything. invitro is for people who dont want to risk anything, and dont have room or the right equipment to grow normaly. try both!

Invitro shrooms do grow smaller but they generally have less water, so dry weight is roughly equivalent. Niether cakes nor invitro jars are especially prone to contam's but the invitro jars are somewhat less so than cakes. You can expect more flushes from invitro, but they will be smaller. Either way is good. If you have the space cakes might be nice for the simple reason that they are easier to get a printable cap from (although invitro jars will yield appropriate caps). Cakes are a good learning experience, and if you plan on getting into more advanced methods they are a good place to start, and then move into casing, and then different substrates and casings, etc. If you are tight on space, only interested in getting servicable shrooms, or just flat out lazy invitro is the way to go! :) That's my take on the situation.
