how easily will the contam come off? when rubbing the blueing on some cakes gently but with some pressure nothing went onto the Q-tip but when with one of the Q-tips I put alot of pressure and some of the color came onto the Q-tip.. Is that because I basically forced some of mycelium to come off of the cake or am i contamd??
please let me know i have some beautiful shrooms growing and im scared
p.s- i tried this with like 5 q-tips and only when i rubbed pretty damn hard did anything at all come off..
thanks -mike

You probably just spread the contam further.
Have you considered cutting the contamed piece out of the cake with a sterile blade?
What contam have you picked up? If it's trichoderma you can kill it by using common table salt.

im trying to come to the conclusion if they are contamd or if they are just bruised or dehydrated..
if they are already contamd im not trying to save them

Ahh, I see you've edited your original post!
If it's blueing on your cakes you've probably got nothing to worry about apart from spreading contams from the Q-tips (if they haven't been stored in sterile conditions) onto your cakes.

My mistake, I thought you said "when rubbing the contam on some cakes gently but with some pressure nothing went onto the Q-tip."
Blueing is quite normal on cakes, all you can do is wait and see how they turn out.
It's best not to prod and poke your cakes though, it's just asking for problems!

the word q-tip appears on thousends of posts. Great teknic to distinguish contam from bruise... now, considering that I'm not a native speaker and q tip isnt in the dictionary, could you explain to me, What exactely, without avreviations or rare words, what is a Q Tip?
If you post me a link with the tek, I will love you forever, and ever, and ever.

cuatiklad- Love the signature
I have become so obsess with sterility that I have come to the point of eating my meal in a glovebox, which for obvious reasons will eventually lead me to death.
Would I become sterile if I swallow a can of Lysol? I wrote them an email but they wouldn?t answer?
lmafo NICE WORK :lol
