Question about the Dead
    #3636917 -

Are the two drummers really necessary? I could understand it if you had some sort of complex rhythms or a separate percussion section, but the beats all seem fairly simple and straight-forward--something one drummer could easily do. Tool, on the other hand, has mind-blowing rhythms and beats with only one drummer(albeit one of the most amazing drummers out there). I just picture two guys both fighting over the position of drummer, and Jerry, being the peace-loving hippie he is, saying, "Hey man, you guys can both do it."

Have you ever heard their live stuff? They do some incredibly complex drum jams.

ahhh but you miss the fact that one is on percussion while the other is on drum set... yes. neccessary. there was a time when mickey wasn't around and that was fine but they have so many great toys and yes listen to drums>space sometime and realize it would be really fuckin hard to do that as one person... you can't play the beam and the drums at the same time.

they both do play set quite a bit of the time though, and that is much harder than it looks! i'm not quite sure if it is necessary, but one set drummer and one percussionist is absolutely necessary. they are both solid percussionists and both add to the music, so i say it's all good. drums>space would not exist with only one person, it's all about their interplay and bouncing rhythmic ideas off eachother. they mesh perfectly in my opinion

Ouch. Paou. Dude. If you'd ever done good acid at a Dead Show, you would understand. Yes. My god, how I miss those.

Billy did a good job in the early seventy's when Mickey left,
but man when there together it opens you up so much more.
