Yeah but Australian accents arent as bad as they seem. American movies with australians in them make us sound like slobs. Poeple in the country do sound like derelicts however normal city folk and people in suburbia are so far from this. But ahh well what can you do

The wierdest thing was when I first 'heard' the American accent.  I had been in Australia for well over a year.  I was living with nothing but Australians, Kiwis and a few Islanders from various South Pacific locales.  I hadn't seen another American for a few months.  Then I ran into a lady from San Fransisco.  She had just arrived in Australia the day before.  As soon as she started talking I thought "Holy shit!!  She sounds like such a fucking idiot!  Jesus, I hope I don't sound that bad!!"

Do any foreigners find the American accent appealing?  I can't imagine how!

Well I was born in America to British parents and lived there for 10 years and picked up the local dialect (Pueblo, Colorado) before moving back to Britain. Nowadays I find the vast majority of American accents to be very nasal and a bit hard on the ears!

hehehe, sorry. A bad habit I picked from Pawpaw I guess :smirk:

Oh, another great accent is Japanese! How soft do those girls talk to you... how lovely of them!

"And now for something completely different", accents who turn us off: German, Russian, Chinese, Korean, German... I could continue, but I wouldn't want to hijack your thread

If I may...

Arabic, some dialects of Spanish really sound TERRIBLE, for example the rural people in the canary islands... I used to live there. Also Catalan sounds not feminine enough to my tastes

I don't like french either, but I guess it's not a common opinion. And Vietnamese. I guess that's about all the languages I've heard and didn't like

Now it's your turn

My g/f is russian. The fact that her voice gives me a boner doesn't mean that when her father has an argument with her in russian it sounds good, in fact it sounds quite disturbing, even I'd dare to say, nasty  :oogle:

I guess in a girl it sounds good, in her father very bad, specially if he's mad at you...

So, what about yours?

Edited because I'm a grammar dumbass

I heard, from a friend of a friend etc, about a small village in Mexico or somewhere, and it had travellers who would come live there and teach English. so an Australian guy went there amd stayed for a number of years, teaching English. the result was a whole generation of Mexican kids with Australian accented English!

I'm judging based on actual Australians I've met and known. The accent just doesn't do it for me.
