UPDATE on the Europe Gathering 2005

we are currentylooking for a new location and have somehting in mind. we want to check it out ourselves before we make any desicions again.
expect an update about the location within a week :smile:

it's still planned for the 1st week of august


Now we need to know soon how many people will come before we can claim a place for the first week of august.

We think this is going to be a great gathering! :laugh:

Myself and Kremlin (and possibly LiquidSmoke) are in the process of organizing a three week +/- european excursion, with perhaps a one-week layover in New York. Will do everything I can to work the gathering into the trip, but at this stage in the game it's just starting to come together so you can put us down as 50% possibilities.

airfare in the states has been so low here lately, theres no way id miss it. im down 100%. Ive made the flight before a few times and its a lonely one from were im at, and its impossible getting a non stop flight from kentucky, you usally have to transfer planes at least once up north before making the long flight so if anyones leaving from a spot semi close to ky let me know and we can get some tickets together, plus you get group discounts.

man that pic of the bull dog brought back some bad memories. there can be some sketchy people hanging around those more popular shops (got mugged). long story short, i didnt like the schwag bull dog had at the time and wasnt paying what they wanted for there hash so some guy said he had what i wanted but a pistol was not what i wanted. i guess it was my fualt for being the only person over there dumb enough to get herb off a street dealer.

There are only 4 bungalows and 1 group accommodations. We have some place for our self as far as I can see on the pictures. I don't know if they like druggies and I don't really care. We are friendly people and pay to use what they offer.

Let me know if you know a place where we really are alone.

there are tons of groups of americans going on vacation everyday and even more american buisiness men taking a plane. So the chance that you can get killed in trafic is probably much bigger so you might as well don't leave your house anymore :wink: :grin:
Seriously, I don't think you need to worry too much about that.

Annom I don't know of any European gatherings exept for a small one in Amsterdam a few years ago. It was Mushroomsally, Scratcher, Meneercactus, Paddo and me. We had a great time :laugh:

Put myself, suimush, and at least one other person down to come together as a group at around 65%.  The only limiting factor is money, at this point :smile:.  We'll know by June-ish if it's going to happen or not for SURE, but right now...  It seems a good possibility and would be very enjoyable.  :smile:

People from the USA and Canada should check airfares! It's definitely not cheap and you should book as soon as possible. We really need to be sure that enough people will come(our financial risk). Please research travel costs etc. and PM me if I should change your %. Don't just say that you are 80% sure if you haven't done any research on how to come to Holland. Take this serious....

That site with all the bungalows sure looks really nice! But maybe you should check up on other places we could stay at just in case there is a problem,  like maybe once you'll be ready to book, it'll be reserved already ya know? oh, and a place a tiny bit closer to france would be preferable :smile:

There is a problem that needs a solution:

Stefan and I can rent the whole thing - we should do this as soon as possible because someone else will rent it soon - but we need to be sure that at least 20-29 shroomerites will come. We have some serious trouble if we are with 5 people and have to pay ?1200. What can we do to make sure we don't get any financial problems? Any input?

The best would be if we have 29 people that are 100% sure and can sign some sort of contract that they will come and pay. That would guarantee a good price. Then we still have 16 places free for people who are not sure yet.

ask shroomerites to show proof of thier 100% attendance claims by asking them to show a copy of the actual plane ticket or the reservation for one. Ask shroomerites to have proof of the ticket purchase by a pre-determined deadline... may at the latest?

any other method results in a tentative schedule at best imho.

Maybe all those who are 95+% shure, should send a few euros to help the meeting take place....if its a reasonable price, real shroomerites wouldn't mind ,even if they eventually don't show up.....It is still help for the community.......

I was also thinking that people who are sure they can come can pay in advance. We might even need to do it that way because there's no way I can come up with 1200+ euro and not even half of that...

A business bank account should be opened at an INTERNATIONAL bank with a "ShROOMERY" DBA (doing business as) title. The account holder should be someone everyone trusts and perhaps even someone who associated with the management of this website? The bank account number can be displayed here on the shroomery alongside an explanation for it's purpose. The account will be registered with paypal for those who use that service to transfer funds. Western Union will also work. A person can also visit the lobby of the bank to make a donation.

What am I overlooking?

I'll probably be flying to Amsterdam this summer. I thought about going around April 20th :wink: instead since the airfare roundtrip is only like $500 whereas in July/August it's $1,000 at this point and will probably go up unless I catch a special. late November would be cool since it's the time when the Cannabis Cup takes place, and again airface is only $500. I'll be in uni in Nov so I can't really break away, and I can't really go in April b/c I won't have saved enough money and will still be working and probably can't take off the time and would get fired. anyway.

I like this idea, but I haven't been here long enough and don't really know you people at all. so, I don't know how comfortable I'd feel there. I'm probably going to be in Amsterdam in late July or early August, though. not sure yet when but very much want to go and am still tentatively planning everything.

semi-hijacking this thread..any info on cheap, chill, well-situated (in relation to 'Dam Square/Centraal Station/Grey Area/De Kuil/etc.) hostels or any other general advice for an American travelling to Europe (specifically Amsterdam) for the first time is appreciated. Yes, I visited that site. We are still looking for a location. This will happen. Don't worry.

I've found some new places. I have contacted one of them. That place is available and it seems to be a good location. I'll visit the location to check if it is as good as looks on their website. It's in a forest and 1hour from Amsterdam. It's basic(no beds) and very cheap. I'll keep you updated.

I just found out, I have to lower my percentages...  :frown:

Unfortunately, I totally spaced and forgot about DefCon, which I more or less have to go to every year, 'cause I help out...  Usually, it's in the first week of August, but somehow, and almost prophetically, it's the last week of July this time...

So maybe lower me to about 45% as I'm not sure I'll be able to get all three of us from Vegas to Holland in such short order...  Still, it's kind of heartening that it is happening before the gathering :laugh:.  So yes.  We'll see.
