Strange shroom question.......

We went shroom hunting last week...........These specimens met the criteria for P Cubensis exactly...We checked everything.....even the spore print.........They were very mature and had many bugs in them........one thing though....many of the caps were huge.........like 6 inches.......granted they were old, but these were the largest I have ever seen........ i would like to comment on id'ing them though.....washng and cleaning them really helps out with the whole identification process.


A shame....We took only about 2 or three grocery store bags of the shroooms....when we came back a week later they magically disappeared...The whole field was picked clean!

I forgot the question! lol.I am staying up too late......What are the largest cap y'all have seen on a p cubenss species?

Hi revo,

First I would recomment not washing the shrooms.. clean them off the best you can, i just dont recommend using water to clean them.

Um and of course never eat a mushroom unless 110% positive of its identification. Psilocybe cubensis in your case

biggest cube cap ive came across was 7 1/2 - 8"s

In Bob Harris' book Growing wild mushrooms their is a picture of a 10" diameter cap of P. cubensis picked in Texas in the midlle 1970s..
