420 was started by the dead......... fitting huh .....Back in San Raphel High in the 60's some of the original members of the dead used it as a code to talk about getting high in front of parent, school, etc. It was the perfect time, it gives you time to get out of school get your weed and go smoke by 420. It just spread like good slang does. Me and my friend were smokin at lunch back in high school and we were talkin about slang and how it just spreads from mouth to mouth. We came up with the word Smoof, you would smoof a cigg, or smoof a pipe it just means to hit something. We started sayin it and before long it spread aroun our school and our town, but it died out after a couple months as slang tends to do. Then like 3 years later im chillin in richmond smokin some purple with this dude i know from Oakland and he said "pass that weed so i can SMOOF it" i was like HOLY SHIT where did you hear that, it seems it made its way to Oakland for a little while. I havent heard it since, but its a good example of how slang spreads
